This week we saw Dave sit front row at the Louis Vuitton show alongside Kendrick; Future Bubblers announce their Year 7 candidates; Digga D has allegedly been barred from 50 Cent’s UK show; Kaytranada trends on twitter & more.

DAVE SITS FRONT ROW WITH KENDRICK PERFORMING AT LOUIS VUITTON SHOW

Santan, Kdot, Naomi & Jack Dorsey. The Louis Vuitton show was packed out with stars during this year’s PFW and the front row truly glistened with talent. One of whom was the UK icon, Dave, as he took in the show and tribute to the brand’s late creative director, Virgil Abloh, who died in November 2021.

It was a momentous affair, especially when you begin to appreciate the juxtaposition of Kendrick, wearing a crown of thorns, performing ‘N95’ at a designer show. All of which feels highly on-brand for the artist – a dissident surrounded by the materialism he no longer gives power to. I add this as the lyrics of ‘N95’ in fact belittles the concept of high fashion and cultures of flaunting riches, “Take off the new logic, that if I’m rich  I’m rare (take it off) / Take off the Chanel / Take off the Dolce / Take off the Birkin bag (take it off) / Take all that designer bullshit off / And what do you have? (Bitch)”. After the performance of a few songs, Kendrick then closed out the rendition with a heartfelt mantra of “Long live Virgil.” 

FKA TWIGS & JORJA SMITH DISCOVER THEY ARE RELATED AFTER ‘DARJEELING’ COLLABORATION

FKA twigs has revealed in a new interview with GQ that she and Jorja Smith are cousins. The pair, who worked together on ‘darjeeling’ having had no knowledge of their family status prior to their collaboration, which featured on twigs’ latest mixtape, Caprisongs.

twigs informed GQ “I’d never met her [Smith] before, and I jumped in her car with her, and I remember thinking to myself, ‘Gosh, that’s really strange. We’ve got exactly the same kind of skin.’” She added: “A few months later I was on the road to go to LA and she left me a voice note saying, ‘You’re never going to believe this, but I’ve just spoken to my dad and he’s spoken to his sister and we’re related.’”

FUTURE BUBBLERS ANNOUNCE THEIR YEAR 7 CANDIDATES

Gilles Peterson’s Future Bubblers have announced their Year 7 Candidates; presenting a host of fresh talents from across the UK––ranging from live-rendered, atmospheric electronics to dubby hip-hop sound storms. It’s a chance to see live shows and DJ sets from a selection of new artists tipped as ones to watch by French-born British broadcaster, DJ and label owner, Gilles Peterson representing the 7th year of Peterson’s Future Bubblers mentorship programme. 

The mission statement of Future Bubblers is to celebrate independent music which tests boundaries and probes new directions. Supported by funding from Arts Council England, the programme works with emerging musical talents to help them develop their music and navigate the music industry. A large focus for the programme is to make sure a spotlight is shed on cities outside of London, partnering with like-minded organisations in each location. DIGGA D ALLEGEDLY BARRED BY POLICE FROM MAKING AN APPEARANCE AT 50 CENT’S UK SHOW

50 Cent teed off his UK tour by performing at the Wembley Arena last week. Many fans were slightly disappointed to find out he didn’t choose to bring out Digga D to the stage – as Digga has, time and time again, proven to be a huge fan of the rap icon – either via his song sampling or when talking on influences in interviews. 

According to a post on Instagram (@treasureeebox) it appears that Digga D may have actually been contacted by 50’s team for a performance, however, this was supposedly barred by the UK police. The source of this information is still uncertain, however, following Digga’s recent arrest and ban from France – this may well be true. And leads us to question – for how long will the young artist be under scrutiny in the eyes of the law, or was this merely a safe bet regarding crowd control and safety?

SPOTTED: RIMZEE IN THE STUDIO WITH EMELI SANDE

Rimzee was seen absorbing the moment during a recent studio session with Emeli Sandé earlier in the week. 

Rimzee’s latest single, ‘Entrepreneur’, is said to be taken from his forthcoming mixtape (which is yet to be announced), which is also said to feature ‘Unruly’.
