A Look at the H&M X Mugler Collection
“Mugler feels totally right for now.” – The words of Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor of H&M.
H&M has collaborated with luxury designer brand Mugler, giving buyers the opportunity to purchase from the iconic French fashion house at a surprisingly low price point.
In conversation with Vogue, Mugler’s Creative Director Casey Cadwallader said “I wanted to make people excited (about the collection) from the get-go, an explosion where everyone is like…wait, what is happening?”
And that’s just what he did; the H&M x Mugler music video took the internet by storm. Beautifully captured by Lengua, directed by Torso, the video features creatives ranging from musicians like Arca, Shygirl, Amaarae and Eartheater to supermodels Aweng Chuol, Imaan Hammam and Yilan Hua.
There is no denying that this collection is a tribute to the late Thierry Mugler. His designs and legacy continue to influence fashion today, from fast fashion retailers to couture. Cadwallader and Mugler share the same values, with inclusivity, gender-fluidity, empowerment and body positivity being at the heart of their designs.
Taking a deeper dive into the pieces, the menswear line includes many leather silhouettes, including trousers, blazers and a trench coat with engraved buttons. Alongside this, we see some denim and tailored pieces.
The womenswear designs are undeniably Mugler. We see exaggerated shoulders and super cinched waists. Their signature multi-spiral seam construction is seen amongst a variety of pieces including jeans and jackets. We definitely cannot forget the Mugler-centric leather outerwear and figure hugging catsuits.
On May 11th the Mugler x H&M collection will be available to shop on H&M and in select stores.
