WHAT WENT DOWN @ MAHALIA PRESENTS… AND WHY YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT EVERYONE ON THE LINEUP FEATURING [@AMARIA_BB], [@SAINTHARISON] & [@AMIEBLUE]

Back for their last night at Moth Club (they’ll be at a new home in June so keep your eyes peeled) Mahalia Presents… is back with another stellar lineup.

Mahalia Presents… is the perfect place for discovering new music. It’s live music curated by R&B star Mahalia, so you already know the music is gonna be good. And as with most multi-bill lineups, you may not know all of the acts – but that’s the beauty of the showcase style event – you get to discover new music and often end up hearing exclusive unreleased songs from the artists. The small, intimate venue is the perfect place for rising artists to play their music to new crowds.

AMIE BLU

What does she sound like?

Amie Blu’s vocals are light and feathery, the kind to bring you peace on a rainy day. Her live band provides acoustics that feel like you’re drifting through the wind as her soothing voice whispers through it.

Lyrics that stood out to us:

“Bad days ahead / Bеtter alone / With some powder on your nose / You make it home”

On her stage presence/performance…

Amie Blu was the perfect opener. Each song was introduced with an anecdote on what the song was about. The nature of her music is quite vulnerable which was balanced out by her witty charm that had the crowd giggling between songs.

How she felt about performing upcoming music to the crowd:

“It’s really nice ’cause making the song, you’re in a secluded studio with people who you trust – it’s really easy to be like honest and vulnerable, so when I perform outside I like sharing that vulnerability and having people come to me afterwards [and] saying it was relatable, that makes me feel really good.”

SAINT HARISON

What does he sound like?

Saint Harison’s vocals are phenomenal. He’s got an earth-shattering vocal range and riffs and runs for days. His powerful voice soars through the mic over a live band with an ensemble of backing singers.

Lyrics that stood out to us:

“Used to be the high for me and now you’re just a downer / You lost your powers / I lost the hours / Used to love the taste of you, but now you’re kinda sour”

On his stage presence/performance…

Saint Harison is charismatic and humble, perhaps a little shy though given that this was his first performance in London, I don’t blame him. He moves with his voice as it bellows out of him, and the crowd absolutely adore him.

How he felt about performing upcoming music to the crowd:

“Very scary – I’ve had the music for a long time. I started writing it early January ’21, so I think you can never really  hear it with fresh ears, but I was talking to someone else earlier and they were [asking] “Do you think about performing it live when you write it?” And it’s the opposite, you don’t, and then you get to perform it live and you’re like, “Oh God, I’ve gotta do everything that I did  in the track.” So yeah, it’s very scary, but it’s actually really lovely  just to get it out, ’cause it’s such a buildup. It’s months and months of buildup, so it’s nice to get it out, to sing it, to hear what people think. It’s nice, it’s a bit of a release.”

AMARIA BB

What does she sound like?

AMARIA BB’s tone is soft – you’ll know this if you’ve ever whined your waist to ‘Slow Motion’ before. However when she’s serenading you with her upcoming R&B music, you’ll learn that her voice is sweet like honey and the runs she hits are seductive and enticing.

Lyrics that stood out to us:

“You got demons in your head / Come lay down with me instead”

On her stage presence/performance…

When she performs, she’s in the zone, eyes often closed like she’s visualising what she’s singing about. Her nature is playful and will definitely make you smile.

How she felt about performing upcoming music to the crowd:

“It was good, I feel like they liked it. I feel like my music’s a bit relatable and it’s got feel to it, it’s got a bit of soul to it, so hopefully they enjoyed it the way I did.”
