The Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga Collection Just Dropped in the Most Ye/Balenciaga Way Possible
A collaboration between three of the most functional, classic, all-American brands, the Yeezy Gap collection powered by Balenciaga just dropped in person in New York.
The collaboration, initially announced in 2020, was brought to life in the GAP flagship store in Times Square. Gimmicks filled the space in the usual Balenciaga style. Instead of a typical store set-up, the interior was “reengineered and distilled to its most essential form”, emphasising the utilitarian DNA of both brands.
Turned into an empty room without any visuals, rails or sales staff, the store gave the long line of customers an opportunity to go through storage bags filled with pieces from past and present collections until they found what they wanted to take home.
The Yeezy Balenciaga experience doesn’t stop there either. The two have introduced a virtual gaming experience in honour of Kanye’s late mother, Donda West, where users can dress up in pieces from the collection to manoeuvre their avatars through the sky while collecting as many doves as possible.
Kanye and Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia are known for taking basics and everyday silhouettes, elevating them to give a luxury, avant-garde feel. Their partnership, coupled with the support of retailer Gap–who are in business with Yeezy for the next ten years–is already predicted to be one of the fastest selling, most talked about collaborations fashion has seen.
