PREMIERE: Iman Lake – Neptune [@chillforme_]

Iman Lake is back again with animated visuals for his latest release ‘Neptune’.

You have no doubt seen Iman Lake on your timeline by now, most likely because of his previous release ‘Stranger Days’ which took off for its very unique campaign. Alongside the track’s release came a comic book by Iman which was further brought to life in the video, all of which led to him selling out of the comic book and getting closer to reaching his goal of 20k comics sold. But that doesn’t mean Iman has any plans of getting complacent and he has followed up with another animated visual treat for new track ‘Neptune’.

‘Neptune’ was a fitting name for the track which boasts strong R&B melodies by Iman over sublime ethereal production. The track narrates a romantic fantasy in which Iman accepts he can’t solve his love interests pain but that regardless together they can not just go against it, but actually “cut down the grain”. This is achieved through him taking us on a metaphysical journey of what they would be if their reality changed before coming to the conclusion that together they can essentially do or achieve anything.

Visually we get a step up from your standard lyric video, that’s no surprise considering he enlisted the creative direction of Azeez Bello who also helped on ‘Stranger Days’. The visuals are kept thematically cohesive with the track’s lyrics but also mirror the atmospheric sounds sprinkled across the production which only adds to the immersion of the track. We get to experience the journey Iman describes by getting the visual representation of them cruising across the new world which the pair of lovers have created for themselves. The visuals were illustrated and animated by Losmunos Project.

This is just the start of things to come from Iman Lake so keep an eye out for what he’s got coming in the not so far off future. You can also check out our interview with Iman and his music collective Common Roots here.
