Five For Friday ft [@KaiaLaurielle], [@A2Artist], [@rmarnitweets] + more
Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.
Five for Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.
A2 Ft. Etta Bond – No Rush
A2 is back again this Friday with a double whammy of releases, the standout of the two for me being ‘No Rush’. It sees the enigma collaborating with Etta Bond again and every time the duo have worked together they’ve created something special, and this is no exception. The silky smooth track has A2 in his melodic bag with his rapping taking a bit of a back seat which definitely lends itself well to the mellow production. Then Etta enters and her distinct tone immediately adds another layer of depth to the track. This is the latest teaser for A2‘s much anticipated Just So You Know project and it’s a great sign of what’s to come.
Jhene Aiko – Tryna Smoke
It was 420 this week so it’s only right that there was at least one weed-related release and it was delivered surprisingly by Jhene Aiko. Not surprising in the fact that we know she’s very spiritual and in touch with natural remedies to things as well as a smoker, it’s just something she’s never put front and centre in the music like this before. On ‘Tryna Smoke’ Jhene delivers the smooth but sultry vocals she’s known for over a slightly Funk infused production that feels just right for the smokers. This is one to meditate and relax too, but one you should be checking out whether you’re a smoker or not.
Q2T Ft. Amaru – All My Time
This is probably one of my most biased picks in a long time for this list and I can be honest with that. Q2T is an artist that I see a lot of potential in and have done since he released his first track ‘Trust No One’ being the first Drill artist to come out of the Ice City camp. A couple years on and Q2T still hasn’t hit the heights he potentially should have but what we are seeing is him experimenting with his sound. On ‘All My Time’ we see him go the more melodic route for the first time and it kind of slaps, it still needs some work but the style definitely has potential for him.
Kaia Laurielle – Nearly
Having taken a break from releasing music since dropping her Waiting Room EP last year Kaia Laurielle has been busy in the studio working on developing her sound even further. For her first release of 2021, she drops the R&B and Soul infused ‘Nearly’ and adds simple but sublime visuals to go alongside it. The visual does its job impeccably of enhancing without being distracting which is made easier by the fact that it’s a visualiser, but a very well done visualiser at that. The record is perfection. The stripped-back ballad has her buttery vocals front and centre and that’s exactly how it should be, it’s captivating and a sign of great things to come.
Rmarni – So High
Rmarni makes her debut release this Friday dropping her track ‘So High’ inspired by the R&B greats but bringing that spirit in with a contemporary sound. This is technically not a song about weed despite what the song title might suggest, it is touched upon but it’s not the focus. ‘So High’ instead sees Rmarni reminiscing on a past love and the highs and lows that came with it. Speaking on the record Rmarni explained, “To me ‘So High’ is understanding where I was and where I am now; being able to remember the highs and the lows and being content with where I am today.”.
