BBC Audio Opportunity for young creatives in sound
BBC Sounds Audio Lab is back and searching for the next generation of audio creators. With the rising popularity of podcasts, Audio Lab is a timely initiative for aspiring podcasts. The project will help podcasters turn their unique ideas into podcasts showcased on BBC sounds.
This opportunity is specifically for podcasters with experience making new audio and telling engaging stories. Applicants should have a range of experience in creating content through writing, interviewing, recording, editing, and more. But ultimately, a passion for audio and podcasts is essential.
Khaliq Meer, the commissioning executive for this project, describes this initiative as an “immersive space where emerging talent can hone their skills and ideas.” Each successful creator will receive a full-time salary, accompanied by professional support, between May 2023 and December 2023.
For professional support, the creators will be given a production partner who will lead the development and production of the podcast. Partners that you could work with include BBC Scotland production, BBC Long Form Audio in Salford, BBC Audio Pop & Speech podcast production, and more.
For those interested in applying, an Audio Lab webinar will be presented with BBC Academy Fusion. During this webinar, they will talk about last year’s program and allow you to ask any questions. Free tickets to the online webinar can be found here.
Audio Lab encourages applications from all UK under-represented groups, including BAME, LGBTQIA+, disabled, and lower socio-economic backgrounds. Applications can be made through the Audio Lab website until the 12th of February.
