This short film ‘Guidance’ by [@KyleXay] is an intimate exploration of fatherhood and it’s refreshing
Guidance is a short film that explores hypermasculinity and the importance of the father-son relationship to young boys, particularly in the black community.
The film shines a positive light on black fatherhood, which is something that is downplayed by popular culture and tackles the negative stereotypes that society have deemed to be the reality of many black people, often never the case. It also addresses the damaging consequences of a lack of guidance to young men in inner-city communities.
Set in Birmingham, a place that has been the scene of many unfortunate incidents involving violence and tragedy amongst young black men. This film aims to spark a conversation around fatherhood being a unifying force and a potential antidote to dysfunction amongst young men in the inner city.
