THE BREAKDOWN – SamRecks ‘Easier Said Than Done’

This EP, ‘Easier Said Than Done’, is the second and final part of a story I started narrating in the song ‘Situationshipback‘ in 2021. The first half (Situationship to Would You Let Me) pertained to me trying to build a relationship with the wrong woman and getting my ego bruised by her insults and doubts about my goals and drive. The EP is about me trying and failing to build a relationship with what seems like, the right woman but at the wrong time.

Addicted

This relates to the birth of a relationship and serves as a double entendre of being addicted to relationships and substances – always chasing a high. I am now embarking on my next relationship, my friends and family tell me to take time to heal from the previous toxic relationship, but I say no, this is the right woman for me.

SEGA

I am frustrated with humanity and not being able to read people. I especially have a problem with the fact that people cannot be judged or trusted simply by how they present, as most times it is a façade. People are not always what they seem – life is like a game, especially relationships – they’re like a 2 or multiple player game, hence the tile SEGA (this is also the game I played the most as a kid – my mind goes to this happy memory when under stress).

SUMO

Early stages of the relationship, my love interest is playing hard to get and I am still very jubilant and ignorant to her facade or how her life is centred around curating a perfect image for social media.

BACK PACK

I am reminiscing about the good old days and detail my come up and realisation that music is my true calling. There is no going back.

5am Interlude

This song relates to my internal mental dialogue with myself, of not knowing what my love interest wants me for and how the relationship marries with my ambition and grind. At the end of the song, I come to the realisation that this is not unique to me – it is a common human experience.

4PM

I had to let a girl go and now I want her back and in this song, I am expressing how I made a mistake and taking accountability for my mistake and declare I don’t want anyone new, I wants her.

Situationship 2

The relationship is now completely done, and I am unpacking the emotional damage in hopes to not carry it with me to the next woman. This is what I should have done at the start in Addicted. This is also a continuation (the calm after the storm type of vibe) to my track Situationship.

Done for the Week

Double entendre, as this is me closing the door on that relationship but also me finishing a work week and looking forward to the future and the freedom ahead. This is the wake of the relationship.
