Stand out designers from LFW SS20 that should be on your radar! Ft [@colinhorgan], [@dbberdan] and much more
London Fashion Week has been a supportive platform for up-coming designers to showcase their work and this season was no different. With the help of organisations like Fashion Scout and On|Off, emerging designers can present their collections to the world. Here are ten designers from SS20 who we predict are on track to a promising future.
NENSI DOJAKA [@nensidojaka]
Recent graduate and fresh face to London Fashion Week, Nensi came to impress. Her daring SS20 collection presented her signature style of dark deconstructed fabric with figure-hugging silhouettes.
SINEAD GOREY LONDON [@sineadgoreylondon]
This South-East Londoner’s designs are here for the underground rave scene. Her SS2O collection fuses bold colours, technical fabrics and supreme attention to detail.
UNDERAGE [@underagestudio]
Founded straight out after graduating at CSM, Ying Shen makes her garms for the youthful and free-spirited. The SS20 collection is described as “a surreal imagining of a secret society where sensuality reigns supreme”.
ANCUTA SARCA [@ancutasarca]
This Romanian-born designer up-cycles old trainers and vintage hells to create new unique footwear. Eco-friendly and sustainable, Ancuta made her debut at London Fashion Week with Fashion East.
POSTER GIRL [@ poster__girl__official]
Sultry, ultra-feminine and glam, POSTER GIRL never fails to amaze. Their SS20 collection paid homage to Titania and Helene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare.
HAREM [@haremlondon]
A breath of fresh air, Harem is founded by two sisters from Istanbul, Dee and Begum. They make easy-going, comfortable pieces for the everyday person. In accordance with the brand’s ethics, SS20’s garments were all sustainable and ethically made.
COLIN HORGAN [@colinhorgan]
Made for ultra-confident, ultra-daring women – Colin draws inspiration from the strength of women in his family to the women who inspired him throughout his youth. His SS20 collection composed bold and loud structural pieces.
ROSE DANFORD PHILLIPS [@rosedanfordphillips]
When nature meets artistry, Rose’s prints are hand-painted and stitched together with bright embroidery. Her SS20 collection was a burst of colour on the human body.
APUJAN [@apujan]
APUJAN, an avid reader since he was a child, drew inspiration from the books he was reading and provides a reading list so guests can get a better understanding of where his concepts have originated. In an interview with Guap, the designer described his collections as a way of ‘speaking the stories that he wants to tell’. Collaborating with Nike, the looks from Apujan SS20 drew upon time, science fiction and the astrological insights of Jesse Tang to manifest in block colouring, floral prints, sport lux, formal wear, oversized suits and chic knitwear.
DB BERDAN [@dbberdan]
DB BERDAN are a young and sharp London based urban lux brand, launched by the matriarchal Turkish designers Beg Berdan and Deniz Berdan. They focus on genderless clothing and the eradication of heteronormativity. Their SS20 collection ‘Self-Love Club’ aims to challenge everyone to love themselves and to embrace each other’s differences in these “invisible battles”. Collaborating with Smiley, the collection features bold colours, oversized tie-dye denim hoodies and joggers that turn into shorts, all made out of authentic environmentally friendly prints created by DB Berdan. In an exclusive interview with Guap, Beg described this London Fashion Week as ‘more inclusive than ever before’, although they fear that inclusivity may simply be a trend within the industry of late.
