NEW TRACK OF THE WEEK: [@elheist]’s genre-bending new single ‘AMO’
In her new single, ‘AMO’, the upcoming artist from South-East London, Elheist, shows the intricacies and technicality of her flow by rapping on a left-field, electronica influenced-beat.
The artist has been making waves throughout the UK music scene owing to her ability to express herself on instrumentals falling in and out of the pockets of alternative hip-hop beats.
On the track ‘AMO’, her vocals kick in with a sing-song bratty tone, then shift into an unapologetic hard-hitting sass – which bursts through the track’s pulsating distorted rhythm. The track was produced by Haich, a producer and good friend of the artist, known for his wild genre-bending production. Her previous track, ‘Matter of Fact/Not That Easy’, is another impressive effort. The artist’s raspy reverb-heavy vocals open the track but then slowly it bursts into a pounding, synth-scattered, slow burner.
Elheist continually shows that her flow can withstand tracks full of numerous bends, twist and turns, proving that her emcee skills are versatile and infallible. Her sound is tinged with a South-London flavour and the artist herself cites Sound-system culture and Hip-Hop as some of her influences. The young artist’s ability to dabble in electronica and experimental hip-hop is bringing something new to both the UK Hip-hop and Experimental Hip-hop. But most importantly, it’s bringing a healthy serving of Black Girl Magic to the music scene.
Recently, Elheist headlined the launch of new female led radio station Foundation FM and supported Poppy Ajudha at the Jazz Café. She has guested shows on Balami and Reprezent Radio with GAL-DEM. Also, she headlined stages at Archspace London, Relentless.
With her immense talents, Elheist’s presence can only keep growing, she is definitely one to watch.
