MULTIFACETED SHAY LIA STUNS ON LATEST ALBUM ‘FACETS’ [@shaylia_]

French-Djiboutian, Montreal based Shay Lia proves how multi-faceted she really is on her debut album FACETS. Her voyage of different emotions is told through a treasure chest of different genres. 

Amapiano-fused opener, ‘HIGH’ feels triumphant in its lyricism and production from Guilty Beatz. ‘ON THE LOW’ tackles a situationship that keeps coming and going, enhanced by the beckoning synths courtesy of Kaytranda, commemorating their tenth collaboration. Her ad-libs help express how tired she is of the back and fourth, as she weaves “I’m tired of s**t” through the captivating chorus. The energy Shay brings on ‘ROMEO & JULIESHA’ is enchanting and flirtatious and the summery production allows for temperatures to rise.

Majid Jordan and Chiiild produced ‘E.G.O’ featuring Buddy which has a sharp-tongued pre-chorus with lines like “Dish it out but never take it back” and “You get a rise out of conflict”, which is diffused by Majid of Majid Jordan’s lush backing vocals. Buddy rides the beat as he expresses his disdain for ego-driven people he’s experienced. 

Her vocals boast wide range on the project from the chant-like chorus on lead single ‘TAKUTÁ’ to the gentle, celestial tones on disco-fused ‘UPSIDE DOWN’ and sultry whispers of French dotted across the record. FACETS is a testament to Shay’s chameleon-like musical abilities, adapting to any genre thrown her way.
