Meet GUAP’s Top 30, Under 30 Black Creatives & Professionals for Blacklist 2024 [@adidasuk]

THE BLACKLIST 24’ IS HERE !

The Blacklist is back for it’s 7th year. Continuing to build a legacy of hope, resilience,
excellence, power, joy and more than we can even comprehend.

We are the future.

As we continue to amplify Black voices, we want to take the time to thank everyone who has been on the journey with us since inception. We have come so far and every day we choose to see those who sometimes may not even know how to see themselves.

Coming from a place of championship and simple necessity we continue to shout out: Activists, Curators, Founders, Sportsmen, fashion and so much more. We know that Black Britain is made up of creative, curious and careful individuals, yet we continue to be erased from our history books.

That is all about to change.

We aim to build a system that works, and not just for us but for everyone and its starts by recognising that we have the power to shift narratives and reclaim them.

Blacklist will make sure that the spotlight shines on us all. The U.K all the way to West Africa, we’ve been able to show that Black talent shines everywhere.

Take this as our reminder to remember to keep showing up.

This list is not about showcasing the best and being compared to each other, it is about recognising that the best of us come in different ways and are in different spaces…

We’ve taken you on a trip down memory lane to let you know once a Blacklister always a
Blacklister and the support has never stopped.

Thank you for rocking with us.

And to our partners Adidas UK, you continue to believe in us – Thank you.

Eyram Dzotsi

I am a chef. Born in Waltham Forest. Grew up in a Ghanaian & Dominican (🇩🇲) household. GOA was birthed out of a desire to continue highlighting the importance of food and community – our elders done a great job, so we must continue this now & pass it on to the next generations.

GOA is fully plant based and we run restaurant pop-ups, as well as a community cooking club, which is free for attendees. GOA started in summer 2019 doing street food, but it wasn’t long before lockdowns put a stop to that. After being involved in ‘Chilli Con Carner’ (Loyle Carner’s cooking school for young people with ADHD), I wanted to start a GOA cooking club for people in my community. I think we as a people, are losing our traditions a bit – be it in food, language or music etc. So I wanted to bring people together to maintain these culinary traditions – which consist of whole & unprocessed foods. This paired with the desire to highlight the importance of communal cooking/eating – are why we do the cooking clubs. So far we’ve been lucky enough to host the clubs at 180 Strand, Google Kings Cross HQ, South London Gallery & Next up Jumbi Peckham.

Then, we also wanted to put on pop-up restaurants, so people can come and experience authentic plant based African-Caribbean food & appreciate the richness of our music. We were also lucky enough to host our first ever series of pop-ups at ‘180 Corner’.

Finally, we curate/support other community based initiatives. For example, the ‘Windrush Tea Party’ we were a part of, whereby we served, honoured & celebrated our Caribbean elders.

This balanced nutritional approach highlights his commitment to wellness and sustainability.

DE-NI-CHE

Deniché Wilson is an Artist, Event Organiser, Activist and Mentor. Hailing from Newham, East London, Deniché has established herself as a rising star in the art and events world.

If you’ve happened to be in and around London, it is likely that you may have encountered the confronting question “What Colour Are You?” tagged on London roads and asked in smoking areas across the country.

In what she acknowledges as a movement mobilised and galvanised by herself, this question acts as the frameworks of an artistic realm that Deniché has curated and built up off of her own desires to understand herself and the people around her. Beyond the intensity of her colour blocking and faceless figures, Deniché’s art has created a space for individuals like herself, within the inner city and beyond, to examine themselves and each other via the means of colour theory and chromotherapy.

In 2023, Deniché recognised the lack of third spaces in London for young who want to create organic and wholesome connections with likeminded people. She then decided to host and organise Sip N Paint events to give people the space they craved for. Within the first year Deniché took the event to schools, colleges and then to Germany and Paris.

“Our scene is made up of all the outcasts, we are all the people that were not accepted – so there is an unspoken mutual respect and obligation to help those who feel left out to find community – we’re on the brink of something so big and it’s beautiful to be a part of it.”

Working my way up from a Broadcast Assistant, to Assistant Producer, to now a Senior Producer at the BBC, I have led and produced multiple live music and national broadcasts.

In my spare time (which really is never spare because I’m always working lol) I am a Presenter, and host a weekly music show on Radio 1Xtra.

Habiba Katsha

I am a freelance Journalist and Writer, writing stories about race, gender, and internet culture. My words have been in British Vogue, inews, Refinery29UK, Metro, Papermag, and several other publications.
