‘Match your makeup to your textilezzz’ is my latest personal project exploring print within a beauty context. Blurring the line between styling and makeup, I wanted to create a beauty shoot which showcases my continued interest in incorporating different materials into my work. As a makeup artist who often works on fashion shoots, I am very conscious of the notion that we’re typically expected to work towards a styling brief. I created the makeup designs for ‘Match your makeup to your textilezzz’ before anything else and wanted the styling to compliment each look, without overriding the beauty aspect of the initial concept.

Creating the makeup designs was very subjective to the casting of the shoot, diversity is something that I am very conscious of within my work and I wanted the uniqueness of the makeup and garments to compliment the individuality of each model. I had an initial idea for each individual look, however these were then further developed through various thought processes – the gingham camo look was fairly concrete from the offset and I was eager that this specific print should be reflected in both full face paint and the styling. The purple look however was based on negative space, and the only planned detail was the shape and shaving of a print in the hair. It wasn’t until I saw the garment on the day that I decided on the colour and texture of the paint. The whole creative process is hugely collaborative between the team.
