[@LittleSimz] & [@cleosol] make ‘Selfish’ sound smooth

Little Simz enlists Cleo Sol to boastfully proclaim they are ‘Selfish’ ahead of her new album release.

Little Simz is one of those artists that seems to never get the props she truly deserves despite consistently delivering quality. ‘Selfish’ is no exception to this pattern of releasing greatness by Simz, this time getting backed up by the equally excellent Cleo Sol. The pair  complement each other extremely well; Simz delivers slick and poignant rhymes, whilst Sol hits us with hauntingly entrancing vocals over the chorus.

Although neither is a new comer, ‘Selfish’ feels like a real breath of fresh air amongst the musical landscape. Sonically, it has a funk-step to it, with a backing bass guitar alongside the piano keys, but equally there are elements of soul, and unsurprisingly rap to the production as well. This reflects the two artists perfectly, but it still came as a pleasant surprise as you can never really go into Little Simz ‘ work with expectations. Or as one Youtube commenter aptly put it “Lil Simz is never what you expect, unless you expect greatness.”

As mentioned earlier ‘Selfish’ is the first announced release from Little Simz upcoming third studio album, ‘GREY’. The album is scheduled for release on March 1st 2019, and with her track record and this latest track, we are all in for a treat when it drops.
