Korede Bello [@KoredeBello] tackles abuse in his debut album #Belloved
Attention afrobeat lovers!
Mr Romantic himself, Korede Bello, has finally released his debut album, Belloved.
I had the pleasure of attending his Album listening party and getting some insight into the man behind the music.
This one is definitely for the fans; the album has no features, other than on Good Time which features Bello’s fans “Bellovers”. Korede was lovely and spoke lovingly of his project. It was a pleasure to meet him and get an insight to ask him about the makings of the album and what inspired him.
For me, my favourite tracks are “Let Him Go” which speaks to abusive relationships and encouraging ladies to let the offender go. I really like the positive vibe and message that Bello is putting out into the world. I applaud the dedication to being positive and taking up a mantle of righteousness rather than just plain entertainment.
My other favourite is “Ese Baba” which is the final track on the album. This track is reminiscent of every Nigerian church with the lyrics, “Ese o Baba Ese o Baba, awa dupe baba” I love that I (and I felt everyone else in the room from a Nigerian background) felt a sense of knowing and belonging. You don’t have to learn the hook because it’s already ingrained in you. It’s part of culture and heritage. It is a Beautiful end to the album.
Korede Bello’s Belloved is out now.
