Frank Ocean launches jewellery venture Homer
On Friday, the ever elusive Frank Ocean announced he would be launching New York based jewellery brand Homer.
Homer is a contemporary luxury jewellery brand with pieces inspired by Ocean’s childhood, made from resin and diamonds that are lab-grown in America. With high ambitions for the brand Ocean tells the Financial Times that he would like Homer to be on the same level as Cartier, the world’s biggest and most recognisable luxury jewellery brand. His prices definitely reflect this as Homer pieces RRP from $395 – $1.9 million.
In line with Ocean positioning Homer as a luxury brand, there will be a store based in New York which opens today and will be appointment only, in addition to offering a phone purchase service.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Ocean reveals the name Homer is inspired by the greek poet of the same name, “Homer is considered the father of history and history is meant to endure – the same as diamonds and gold – and I know Homer used papyrus but I’ve always liked the idea of carving history into stone.”
The launch is complimented by a catalog presentation of the collection, shot by Tyrone Lebon.
