Five For Friday ft [@JordsOnline], [@ElizaLegzdina], [@backroadgee] + more

Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.

Five for Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.

Jords, Masego, kadiata – Enemies

Jords is back with new music again with ‘Enemies’ being the first track he’s released since his iconic performance of yet to be released track ‘Rice & P’s’. For this latest one, he enlisted the big name feature of Masego which is one that I think a lot of us wouldn’t have expected but together prove that they compliment each other perfectly. Also providing a verse is the ever adapting kadiata, who’s style has been shown to compliment Jords previously with their refix of kadiata‘s ‘onda’. On ‘Enemies’ we get energy, bounce, slick wordplay and smooth vocals. It is the record you should be listening to.

Eliza Legzdina – Eat Your Greenz

‘Eat Your Greenz’ sees Eliza Legzdina putting her vocals front and centre and it is a nice change of pace amidst her previous releases. Eliza made a name for herself with her rap anthems that were all about uplifting women so seeing the more singing led side is always going to be a good look as it shows the range she has as an artist. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the more vocal focussed Eliza though, that happened on her 2020 track ‘Tom & Jerry’ which is actually the track that put her on my radar. Her sound has developed a lot since then but it still feels like we’re only scratching the surface of what Eliza has to offer.

BackRoad Gee ft. BG & TizzTrap – A YO

BackRoad Gee is still one of the most exciting talents to have broken out in the past year. Having his breakout record ‘Party Popper’ on Drill he has been manoeuvring since then to show us some diversity in his sound. We’ve had him on Rap records like Pa Salieu‘s ‘My Family’ and on more Afro-infused tracks like ‘Take Time’ at the close of last year. On ‘A YO’ we see him back on Drill and proving yet again why everyone is so drawn to him. His energy is infectious and his uncompromising ability to deliver ad lib filled lyrics gives him a character that is both unique yet accessible. BRG is going to have a big 2021.

Greentea Peng – Kali V2

Greentea Peng has been around for a while but she has yet to give us an album, the wait is almost over. Alongside dropping the news of her upcoming album earlier this week she also dropped the latest single from it ‘Kali V2’. It is an enrapturing teaser of what’s to come on the project and plays into some of her biggest strengths without it feeling like she was just playing it safe. We get a mellow meditative beat that’s laced with Greentea‘s one of a kind vocals. Maybe it’s the ability to convey rawness through her voice without having the vocals sounding coarse or strained or maybe it’s just that star quality. This album will be special.

Baba Crunch – Tables Turn

Baba Crunch is an interesting artist who has actually been around for a while, initially a part of the PBGR collective before going solo. Since going solo he’s leaned heavily into the more melodic rap side of things, which is surprising as when he wants to bar he can do it with the best of them. On ‘Tables Turn’ we do however see that more R&B tinged style but fused with some real energy and aggression. ‘Tables Turn’ also serves as a message to fans with him saying “I’m coming up one way or another, watch if you wanna” in the track, so expect another strong year of music from Baba Crunch in 2021.
