Five For Friday ft [@shasimma], [@Benjamin_AD], [@ItsBeaAnderson], + more
Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.
Five for Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.
Jords – Rice & P’s (COLORS)
Croydon’s very own Jords graced the COLORS stage earlier this week to debut his latest single since releasing his Almost An Adult project in 2020. ‘Rice & P’s’ is quintessential Jords, it is authentic and introspective without feeling like preaching and delivered with a confidence and clarity that is hard to match. Having taken a slight break seeing Jords back in this way can only be a good thing and a sign of things to expect throughout the rest of the year.
ShaSimone – Supersize
ShaSimone is someone who might’ve flown under your radar in 2020 with her only release being ‘Belly (Freestyle)’ that dropped in September, but you need to remember the name. For the first offering in 2021 from the hugely talented rapper, we have ‘Supersize’ a catchy yet simultaneously lyrically dextrous track that exudes confidence. It is a great single to kick off the year with and it comes with appropriately well exectued visuals. The track and visuals are a great complete package and should be a key moment in establishing ShaSimone as the star she has the potential to be.
Benjamin A.D – MOOD
Benjamin A.D is by no means new to the music scene but having had significant breaks across his career he hasn’t yet reached the heights he has the potential to. In 2019 he began to drop more consistently and had a slew of quality singles and culminated in what I would say is 2020’s sleeper hit ‘Oxytocin’. Now in 2021, we get his debut EP MOOD that aims to introspectively walk us through a period of his life and highlights a change in mindset the period brought about. The projects overall vibe is mellow, as you could expect with the subject matter, and flips between rapping and singing throughout delivering an experience that has something everyone can appreciate and resonate with.
Bea Anderson – Easy
When a debut single is as strong as this the level of expectation going forward raises. ‘Easy’ is the first offering from Bea Anderson and is the first single taken from her upcoming EP. The track is all about simplicity – both in its subject matter as well as song composition. The track doesn’t rely on someone throwing the kitchen sink at the production to draw people in, instead, it opts for just an acoustic guitar. With nothing to hide behind it leaves Bea‘s vocals in the spotlight and that’s exactly where they should be. This all ties in perfectly with the messaging of the song that is all about love being uncomplicated and easy, hence the song’s title.
OFB Bandokay x Double Lz x Izzpot – YKTV
This trio is really building steam together. Having earlier in the year released ‘AHLIE’ the younger camp in OFB are back again with ‘YKTV’ and it doesn’t disappoint. Now Bandokay and Double Lz are at this point staples of the Drill landscape but Izzpot only really began to break out in the past year. Together they have become a trio that the people want to hear and on ‘YKTV’ we see exactly why. There’s clear chemistry between them and they each offer something slightly different. The production on this one is crazy and really brings out the best in all 3 artists. Hopefully, this trend of collaboration continues as well as getting some strong solo offerings from each member.
Honourable mention –
Sticking with the OFB camp, Headie One today released the Deluxe edition of his already acclaimed debut album Edna. On it, we see 8 new tracks, including new single ‘Siberia’ featuring Burna Boy which had it’s video release yesterday evening. You can stream Edna (Deluxe) here.
