Friday’s are packed full of releases, these are 5 you should pay particular attention to today.

Five for Friday is back again. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically. Friday is also the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have just dropped.

Linae – Stereo Vibing

Swedish artist Linae, jumped on the scene and surprised many with her chilled and stripped cover of the Maxwell classic ‘Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)’ a few years back as her debut. Now, this silky smooth, enchanting R&B diva is back with another classy, still edgy retro-flavoured gem that was magically created during a fantastic session in London at the end of 2019. When the right mix of people come together, things do happen and take talent to the next level, and ‘Stereo Vibing’ is this to a T.

simon a. – Way To Go

Born out of a string of soul-soothing releases, simon a. debuts his EP ‘Way To Go’. The ‘Way To Go’ EP takes shape around five carefully crafted singles, accompanied by equally captivating visuals bringing to life the gentle whispers of simon a.’s mesmerising narrative. As the EP unfolds, it tells a story of self-understanding, the process of confronting yourself and overcoming internal battles that may be faced as life lays the path you walk.

Jordan Stephens – Son Of A Gun

Jordan Stephens makes a shining return to follow his 2019 debut solo EP P.I.G. (Pain Is Good) with powerful new single, ‘Son Of A Gun’. A perfect sonic blend of alternative Pop, R&B and Hip Hop, it’s deeper lyrical narrative sticks true to Jordan’s penchant for thoughtful and relatable output as it addresses the cycles of trauma in young men that a fatherless generation have found themselves in. A true sonic journey, ‘Son Of A Gun’ is reflecting Jordan’s myriad of personal interests and musical inspirations. The single is a triumphant display of musical talent, dexterity and versatility.

B-awhe – Nuance

B-âhwe’s stylistic versatility takes centre stage on her debut EP Nuance. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Charlotte dos Santos and Hiatus Kaiyote, the EP is a journey that traverses the worlds of Neo-Soul, Hip-hop and Jazz. The EP’s lyrical narrative is thoughtfully weaved through lush vocal textures, dreamy strings, jazzy chords, and ambient soundscapes. These elements are complemented by rap and Hip-hop influences and unsuspectingly driving musical interludes, which leave you enthralled as to where the story will carry you next.

Doktor – Boombastic

‘Boombastic’ shows Doktor’s commanding ability to switch moods without compromising on the quality. His regular collaborator Dot Inc sets a darker tone with the production. The ‘Boombastic’ video finds Doktor and his team cleverly creating engaging content from limited resources. Across the visuals we see a number of odes to films such as Wesley SnipesBlade, the childhood classic Rapunzel, Stranger Things, before finally finishing with some Pulp Fiction vibes. The visual was directed and edited by Mally, and shot by JKP.
