Dear Male Ego : The Visual EP By Darnell Depradine [@DirectorDarnell]
DEAR MALE EGO : THE VISUAL EP
We live in the digital age of ‘do it yourself”. Creatives are able to curate projects and showcase their work skipping out the middle men and finding platforms that will support their work. Darnell Depradine is a twenty year old up & coming director from East London. Still at the dawn of his career he has already worked with the likes of Chipmunk, Ghetts, Charlie Sloth & WSTRN.
Noticed by REVOLT TV Darnell was given the opportunity to film two documentaries for the American broadcasting company.
In his latest project Dear Male Ego Darnell explores the ideology of Hyper-masculinity, the perceived characteristics that men should obtain to prove how ‘manly’ they are. He questions the stigmas that are attached to masculinity and addresses the social issues around this false standard.
The film runs at fifteen minutes accompanied by a five track EP with tranquil sounds from Josh Kai & Navan. Cinematic production from Likklejay and artistic sound direction from Jefe. Darnell exclusively produced the soundtrack EP to accompany his film “by gathering various artists and producers he knew would capture the emotion that runs parallel to the powerful imagery throughout the film” .
I’m ready to let go of my emotions and show the world my potential to the best of my current ability, by releasing films that challenge my audience and leave them with a sense of enlightenment – Darnell Depradine
The driving force for the ‘Dear Male Ego’ project “is to challenge the societal constructs of male conventions amongst the millennial generation”. It’s vital to have individuals such as Darnell who are not afraid to question the boundaries of creative media. It’s projects like Dear Male Ego that will provoke engaging conversations and explore the current climate in male attitudes to what it means to be masculine. The conceptions of being a man are heavily related to being emotionless. When in fact there is so much that makes up the emotions of a man. Be sure to check out Dear Male Ego : The Visual EP and listen to the soundtrack at 5PM tomorrow Via @DIrectorDarnell Platforms.
