clothsurgeon are set to kick the Euros off with capsule collection in collaboration with Sports Direct
Rav Matharu’s streetwear brand clothsurgeon is set to drop a capsule in partnership with Sports Direct. The four-piece collection will be released in line with the first game of the 2021 UEFA European Football Championship.
The limited-edition capsule was designed at the clothsurgeon atelier in East-London, fusing the brands tailored streetwear aesthetic with upcycled women’s and men’s national kits curated from the Sports Direct archive. The collection features a tracksuit jacket and bottom, a bucket hat, and a utility vest in a black base colour palette, adding red and white colour from the reconstructed vintage kits in patchwork panels. You can also expect ‘off-pitch’ fits designed to be integrated with the sportswear pieces.
Creative director of clothsurgeon, Rav Matharu played professionally for Leeds United as a teen, and still lives and breathes football to this day. So when Sports Direct challenged him to take inspiration from the brand’s “Just A Game?!” platform, that celebrates the wider culture around football, one area being fashion, the collaboration just made sense.
“The collection was inspired by my shattered dream to become a pro footballer but everlasting love for the game – it’s that merging of a broken past and brighter future that informed my interpretation of ‘Just A Game?!’ and sparked the design process.
With a year of football tournaments on halt, as we approach the Euros, I have so many emotions about the game; excitement, anticipation and hope. To pull together a collection on what football ultimately means to me for Sports Direct has been a really cathartic experience. I can’t wait to see people dressed in the apparel as they watch some of the big games.”
The partnership with clothsurgeon forms part of Sports Direct’s wider Just A Game?! campaign that expands upon the brand’s long-term commitment to making football a more accessible sport for all.
The clothsurgeon x Sports Direct capsule will be available at sportsdirect.com from June 11th, retailing at £45-£90.
