3 Exhibitions To see this October

With fashion week coming to an end and the new beginnings of fall on the arise, October is a busy undoubtedly a month. GUAP’s got you covered so you don’t miss out on the happenings around town.

Here are some exhibits to see this month:
1. Home As Corpus: Head of State’s Taofeek Abijako ditched a traditional catwalk for an immersive art and fashion exhibit. Curated by Diallo Simon-Ponte and held at the Strada Gallery, the exhibit features designers across the African diaspora. The exhibit explores what it means to see the body as home– or the home as corpus.

2. Sekai Machache’s Svikiro: Sprawled across the Mount Stuart House and Gardens, Machache curates a series of new short gestural films. The films feature dance performances and songs from invited artists such as Alberta Whittle, Mele Broomes and Eyve Madyise. This exhibit aims to expand our understanding of storytelling to suggest alternative readings of the past and present and offer a new way of thinking of a future built on collaboration.

3. The Missing Thread: Untold Stories of Black British Fashion: Opening at Somerset House’s East Wing Galleries, this exhibit explores the meaningful contributions Black British culture has made to Britain’s fashion and design scene. It includes Original commissions from contemporary fashion designers Nicholas Daley, Bianca Saunders and Saul Nash, an extensive archive of renowned designer Joe Casely-Hayford OBE, and more.
