Five For Friday: [@loshhaje], [@MIAuniverse], [@Sainte444], [@FousheeLive] & Cal1sto

We’ve delved into the deepest and darkest corners of the musical ocean to bring you five for friday: our weekly round-up of the crème de la crème in new music.

Loshh – ‘ọ’

GENRE: funk/ electronic

FROM: London, UK

Musically, Loshh has come far in the last few years: from his early days spent at uni messing around with his vocal range, seeing what flow feels comfortable with his cadence. To now, where he is being lauded by leading publications from i-D, Pitchfork, FADER and many more. This latest single carries the London-based artist’s traditional sounds of highlife, combined with jazzy instrumentals and topped with his punk-ish flare.

M.I.A – ‘The One’

GENRE: dance/ electronic

FROM: London, UK

M.I.A. has shared the new single “The One,” produced by Rex Kudo and T-Minus. The musician has also revealed the title of her next album: MATA. The follow-up to AIM, dropping via Island Records, with which M.I.A. has signed a new global record deal. The album does not currently have a release date. She also revealed in an interview with Zane Lowe via Apple Music that she is now a born-again Christian.

Sainté – ‘East’ ft. Joony

GENRE: rap

FROM: Leicester, UK

Sainté’s list of collaborators is a glitzy line-up of high-calibre artists, any artist he works with should no doubt be on your radar too. The Leicester-raised artist’s unconventional flows are more akin to those who embrace the futuristic elements of the new-wave styles in music that have been brought on by novel techonologies and shifting listening habits. For that same reason, his latest collab with DMV rapper Joony makes perfect sense. Joony’s lyricism is layered and from his initial releases on Soundcloud to now – you can observe his growth over the years through his penmanship.

Cal1sto – ‘4Reel’

GENRE: alt rap

FROM: London, UK

Cal1sto’s may be just 16-year-old but his musicality feels irrefutable. Once you look past the surface-layer of hyper-pop influences there is something intrinsically genius to the composition of his tracks. It’s this inexplicably mysterious element which keeps me coming back, again and again, to check for new music from the budding artist.

Fousheé – ‘i’m fine’

GENRE: indie/ soul/ r&b

FROM: Los Angeles, US

Born and raised in New Jersey, Fousheé was inevitably set her roots into a musical life from a young age. There is no true way to define Fousheé’s categorisation in music or as an artist – she has this tendency to master whatever form she takes on. ‘i’m fine’ released via Trackmasters Entertainment/RCA Records is a prime example of Fousheé being unafraid to showcase her artistry: not only is the track written and produced by herself alongside BNYX, the accompanying visuals also see her take on the role of director as well.
“‘i’m fine’ was the first song I wrote for this new project,” says Fousheé.  “During the span of time between the last project to when “i’m fine” was written there was a lot being suppressed. It’s highlighting the contrast of a pretty exterior with a chaotic interior. This contrast ultimately inspired the entire project.”
