PREMIERE: [ K S R ] – Stylin [@ksr_mcr]
[K S R] comes through super smooth with the vocals on his latest drop ‘Stylin’.
‘Stylin’ is the follow up to [ K S R ]‘s ‘My Lady’ and also brings us closer to his forthcoming independent project. The Mancunian rising star looks set to be next in line to make a splash for the city, that in recent years, has been churning out stars that reach heights like no other. [ K S R ] is sonically a departure from the main sounds coming from Manchester at the moment, but his recent releases have also been a slight departure from the sound he became known for on his debut EP Unfiltered. Rather than being content to stay in his comfort zone he has delved into trying to incorporate a wider range of influences in his music.
Stylistically what that means for ‘Stylin’ is that it sounds a lot closer to ‘My Lady’, which is a blend of Hip-Hop with R&B and Soul. The Hip-Hop element, however, doesn’t take over too much and lends itself more towards touches in the production and parts of [ K S R ]‘s vocal delivery. The sonic palette wasn’t just the handiwork of [ K S R ], the track was produced by Litek who has produced tracks for the likes of Aitch, Bugzy Malone, and even Conor Maynard. Together the duo created a laid back bop filled with tongue in cheek lyrics and even a nod to Drake‘s ‘Child’s Play’.
Visually ‘Stylin’ matches up to the vibe without leaning to heavily into mirroring the lyrical content. Rather than following the story of the girl that he’s narrating he goes for a video reminiscent of an Essie Gang or even A$AP Mob style, with clear camaraderie and plenty of fun energy on show. It’s relatively simple (part of which I’m guessing came down to covid-19 rules), but simple is sometimes the best especially when it comes to music videos.
With a project on the horizon you can expect to see even more experimentation from [ K S R ], and we can’t wait to hear how that turns out.
