YAZ – Overgrown
Yaz is the R&B, garage pop princess hybrid we all need in our lives. Her third single ‘Overgrown’ sees the North West London artist revelling having found the strength to leave a toxic lover over fun and preppy production. If you need something to dance in the mirror to – this is a real contender.
Nick Hakim – Vertigo
‘Vertigo’ is the latest track from neo-soul, indie folk artist Nick Hakim. It’s an easy-going , relaxing musical break from the hustle and bustle of life with satisfying guitar loops and beautifully soft and layered vocals from Hakim. Three minutes of neo-soul escapism.
Odunsi The Engine – Denim
One of the front runners of Lagos’ Alte scene – Odunsi (The Engine) is back with a 4 track EP entitled ‘Denim’. Satisfying transitions, exciting hyper pop/hip hop production and effortlessly fresh lyrics all brought together by the underlying afrobeat flair. Definitely something to tap into this week.
LYAM – The Reapers
If you’re an alternative Hip Hop head you’ll love ‘The Reapers’ from LYAM featuring Wiki. LYAM’s nonchalant London flair works perfectly alongside Wiki’s steady cadence and makes for a hard hitting 4 minutes of relatable bars about life on both sides of the pond.
Sunny.Nine9 – Distance Omo
If you’re like me and still want to cling on to the remnants of summer ‘Distance Omo’ by Sunny.Nine9 is one to add to your playlist swiftly. The summery track sees Sunny.Nine9 lay smooth catchy vocals over a beautiful blend of Afro Beats and Amapiano.
