[@yxngbane] and [@MaleekBerry] came up off the ‘Corner’
Yxng Bane headed over to Nigeria, did a vlog, and used those visuals for new banger Corner.
It looks like the wave is really unstoppable with Bane. From his breakout track Lone Wolf he has quickly built up an incredible and loyal following across the globe. Adding to his growing list of top-tier collaborators on Corner he enlists fellow Naija boy Maleek Berry.
Yxng Bane somehow always manages to sound refreshing amongst a background of Afro-swing artists that are almost indistinguishable from one another at times. He hits us with his typical smooth but gangster vibes with a little fun in the mix too. On this one, he lets us know exactly where he came from and the mentality it built in him. It proves that his corner mentality has only pushed him to reach the level he’s at and will only keep moving forward. Maleek Berry perfectly compliments this content but with his distinct twist that will hopefully bring some more attention to him in the U.K.
The video is perfect for complementing the track with plenty of fun. It also does something extremely important in terms of representation as well. The visual paints Nigeria in a light many people in his audience would never have seen. Instead of the African nation being shown as a place of poverty and struggle, Bane subverts it with visuals of lavish parties, decadence and a beautiful but gritty country, which is a more accurate representation than what is traditionally portrayed. Beyond the visuals showing of Nigeria, they show off a whole host of Nigeria’s talent both diaspora and homegrown. We, of course, have Bane & Maleek Berry as well as the expected cameo of G Frsh but we also see the likes of Davido, Burna Boy and more. A good show of unity between two sides of the same scene.
