THE NIGHT GALLERY: A VIBRANT CELEBRATION OF CREATIVITY LAUNCHES AT BRIXTON VILLAGE
On Thursday, 1st of June, Brixton Village is being activated with a curated evening of art, music, and poetry: ‘The Night Gallery.’
Sponsored by Brixton Brewery, which has been serving crafted beer to South Londoners since 2013, in collaboration with local community art organization The Brixton Project, the evening aims to celebrate creativity at the heart of the Brixton community.
Spoken word artists Lateshia Howell, Ehireme ‘Native’ Omoaka, Binta Yade, Remmel, and Maia Ardalla, who collectively have worked with institutions such as the Black Cultural Archives, V&A East, and BBC Radio, will be filling up Brixton Village with their poignant words on this year’s theme: ‘In Common.’ Dancer Valerie Ebuwa will take over the grounds with a movement-based conversation with the audience exploring the historic architecture of the market and the Black female body. Shops in Brixton Village will also honor the evening by showcasing never before seen art installations.
“Together with our neighbors and friends, The Brixton Project and Brixton Brewery, we are creating a moment of celebration to showcase these artists and their work and offer them the opportunity to engage with the community, London, and beyond,” says Brixton Village general manager Diana Nabagereka. The evening is set out to be unforgettable with an astonishing array of cultural offerings and only represents the first phase of a more extended collaboration. Brixton Brewery will offer mentorship to the showcasing artists throughout 2023, and more exciting endeavors will be unveiled.
‘The Night Gallery’ at Brixton Village will launch on Thursday, 1st June, from 6 pm to 10 pm and run throughout 2023.
