Shahlaa Discovers [@shahlaatahira] X GUAP Issue 10
You didn’t know about Fred Fredas
I first met Fred Fredas when he approaches me at a #ShahlaaDiscovers event and said, “You need to get me on your show” and I was like hmmmmm…. I’ve heard that one before! But when Fred Fredas dropped ‘I’m Still’ ft Amia Brave I had to beg him to let me have a radio exclusive first play. With his passion in his flow, message and versatility it is only a matter of time before Fred Fredas is dominating the UK Rap scene. Don’t take my word for it, check out his latest release ‘Another Day’ ft Naya and find out more about the artist below….
Describe your sound in 3 Words.
Gritty, Soulful and smooth
Why is music so important to you?
Music has the power to change someone’s life, it has the power to comfort individuals when they are going through hardships. I hope my music always has the power to take someone out of a dark place. It is also the only way that I can fully express myself, writing music for me is almost like therapy a lot of things begin to make sense when I put my pen to the pad, without music a lot of things in my life wouldn’t make sense.
When you think about your biggest dreams, where does your mind take you?
My biggest dreams are for my music to have a profound impact on the world, where people who don’t even speak English listen to my music and recite my music.
I want my music to touch individuals in ways they do not understand. I want to be known as one of the greatest artists who ever lived, that’s what drives me every day. My biggest dreams are to connect with people all over the world
Hindsight’s a bitch, what do you wish you could have learnt earlier?
I think it is important to value your time, I think sometimes as creatives we don’t take our time seriously enough in terms of being organised and seeking opportunities constantly, I wish I had that knowledge when I was a lot younger. I also think it is important to go with your gut instinct, in the creative industry everyone has their own opinions and sometimes you allow people’s opinions to overshadow your opinion just because you don’t believe in yourself enough or just because you think they know more than you do but that doesn’t always make them right. In hindsight I would have went with my gut instinct with certain things, that way I would have prevented a lot of mistakes.
I like you man, where do I go to check out more?

Spotlight Track:
With London Summer 2017 having the attitude its already Autumn, this week I’ve taken my spotlight track international. Bringing you vibes from Jamo thanks to BROTHER B FEAT, TRILLZ.
TRILLZ – Different Ting
With BROTHER B hailing from my hometown Grenada and racking up over 9,000 likes on Facebook alone, its no surprise TRILLZ CITY RECORDS had to make this collaboration happen.
When I asked TRILLZ CITY RECORDS why the collaboration was so necessary, Jes Harmen said “Brother b and I linked up at show I was a part of 4 years ago. We stayed in contact over the years….I was back in London and was in deep meditation on a new direction….I called BROTHER B out of the blue and the funny thing was we were on the same vibe. So I got him and went to the studio in London. On our way there on the Motorway, we started to freestyle about real situations and that’s how we came up with this song. Different Ting is actually a true story. We just wanted to create a new wave by working together because nobody would see this coming. Eventually we want to use different ting to create, like a whine competition globally with this song.”
With Trill City announcing their new album ‘Trill City Presents…’ Get ready for some serious carib vibes, fusing Soca, Jamaican Dancehall and Dance music.
This project will have O.G’s featuring like Gyptian, Jamesy P aka Mr ‘Nookie tonight’ and London’s very own Soraya Russell, plus so much more! All the tracks have been produced by Trill City and to stay up to date with the release make sure you follow the socials @TrillCityGlobal (Insta) or @TrillCityUK (Twitter)
