News: Rapman [@RealRapman] lands new directorial roll in Paramount Pictures backed film ‘American Son’
Following the success of Blue Story, Rapman has landed a new directorial role with his first announced cast member being Russell Crowe.
Rapman needs no introduction at this stage but it’s nice to see that his reach is expanding and efforts are paying off. Having had a huge hit on his hands with Blue Story domestically and it slowly but strategically being rolled out in other territories it hasn’t taken long for him to catch the attention of Hollywood. With Blue Story pulling in £1.3 million over the opening weekend, despite it being pulled from certain cinema chains, it’s not that surprising that Paramount has backed him.
Paramount Pictures were the film studio behind Rapman‘s Blue Story but they have hundreds of huge films under their belt. They are behind films like Titanic, the Transformers series, and even the distribution of Marvel‘s Iron Man films. For them to have picked him out initially was incredible but after proving his talents this follow up was inevitable.
Now telling a different story in American Son it has also been announced that Russell Crowe (Gladiator, American Gangster, Les Miserables) will play a key role in the film. The story is set to follow the tale of a man who is at first under the thumb of mobsters but eventually rises above them cementing a place for his own crime syndicate to exist. The film is based on the French film A Prophet which won the grand prix at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
Having proven himself telling his own story, it will be great to see how Rapman tackles this new challenge and it will be great to see how things turn out.
