PREMIERE: JatzDaKid [@JatzDaKiid] – This Is The Place
The charismatic and genre bending Jatzdakid is back with trippy visuals for ‘This Is The Place’.
Jatzdakid is special, and ‘This Is The Place’ really shows it. JDK might not be a name that’s been on your radar but he should be. Just last year he opened up for Tekashi 6ix9ine and Jay Critch as well as featuring on tracks with names like Octavian, House Of Pharaohs, Kadiata and more. With a fast growing resumé and increasing momentum, he’s doing things right as despite all of this success he’s remaining true to his sound and style.
On ‘This Is The Place’ we get JDK showing off his skillset in full. On the track we get both melody and traditional Rap in a blend that’s closest comparisons would be to a Travis Scott or Playboi Carti. But that doesn’t quite do JDK justice because his style is so unique to him that the only way you can understand it is by listening. What’s also interesting on the track is that the song structure isn’t very traditional. The song is very at ease with leaving space for the instrumental to take centre stage and those gaps without vocals definitely add to the atmosphere of the track.
The visuals tie in well with the ‘This Is The Place’ title as we see JDK on a journey across LA. Videographer Casper Masi did a great job of capturing the narrative of a journey in the visuals whilst simultaneously mimicking the psychedelic element of the track’s production. The two pair together extremely well and make a change to the standard video format from UK artists. It, of course, helps that he had Hollywood Boulevard as well as a desert for locations but it’s the videography that really helps them shine within the context of the song.
