PREMIERE: Alora – Like Me [@officialalora_]
Alora is back on your screens with the animated lyric video to ‘Like Me’.
‘Like Me’ is the first track from Alora since her appearance on FootAsylum‘s Does The Shoe Fit which was the number one trending video on YouTube when it dropped. This track was actually partially inspired by the experience on the show and is indisputably a pretty girl bop. It’s a new style from Alora that we haven’t seen much of to date and is even a sound quite distinct amongst the current UK musical landscape with it incorporating some strong Pop elements alongside the expected Rap.
To tie the Rap and Pop worlds together Alora enlisted the help of seasoned producer J Stories who has worked with the likes of Wayne Hector and Distortion. Together they create a soundscape that feels both foreign and familiar at the same time. Alora laces this unique production with a lyrical display of her cheekiness as well as her confidence to create something for all the independent spirits out there. That kicks in from her first lyric which comes in before the bass has even dropped and that energy doesn’t stop at all across the number. The confidence and subject matter is reminiscent of rap queens like Queen Latifah and MC Lyte.
In the words of Alora:
“I’ve always made my own rules. You have to be confident about what you bring to the table when you meet someone who matches your vibe. I wanted to make a song that reminded people to always be unapologetically themselves, because that’s what will make the right person fall for you.”
The lyric video itself mimics the playfulness of ‘Like Me’ and does an excellent job of keeping things interesting. With a lyric video, its often difficult to maintain variety and Kieron Boothe and Sam Adjaye did a great job of turning it into a genuinely pleasing visual experience, it is the ideal substitute for a traditionally shot video
