On Our Radar: [@lukervv] – ‘LONG TERM PARKING’
WHO: Luke RV
GENRE: hip hop / rap
FROM: South Wales, UK
When I first heard Luke RV it was early 2020, a tumultuous time for many of us… Something about his voice felt like a perfect sonification of the emotions one felt over this period. There’s a sense of tension in his vocals which are subsequently relaxed by his aptness for melody; in such a way that feels entirely revitalising. With a musical career that started in 2017 in the valleys of South Wales, it’s not hard to picture how monstrous the barriers looked in order to make yourself heard in the wider musical spheres of areas like London.
Directed by Kiddus, the visuals of Luke’s latest single provide us with a window into his daily surroundings; accompanied by his nearest and dearest. The track brings forward his stirring penmanship which is then laid over the artist’s signature dreamlike guitar riffs.
The title of ‘LONG TERM PARKING’ itself takes inspiration from cult classic, The Sopranos, in particular the episode where Adrianna dies. Commenting on the single Luke adds – “The video portrays the feeling of going through the motions. I wanted the lyrics to convey a battle, more of a constant conversation in my head, and the video to also represent these lingering thoughts.”
If you fancy catching him live there’s a vast amount of opportunities from shows at Boxpark Shoreditch to Boomtown Festival, so make sure to keep an eye out.
