Five For Friday ft. [@wewantwraiths], [@itsgabzy], [@HardyCaprio] + more
Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.
Five For Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is the day that the official charts are announced, which lets us know who holds the coveted number one position. We’ve had another very busy week of great music so to make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.
wewantwraiths – French Kiss/War Crimes (Freestyle)
People should be talking about wewantwraiths more, he’s got a seemingly cult following as well as endorsement from the likes of Central Cee. Yet despite this it still feels like he hasn’t broken into the mainstream quite yet – this is even though all of his official song releases with videos over the past year have done over a million views. On “French Kiss/War Crimes (Freestyle)” we get his patented melodic Trap style that just emanates star quality as well as tasters of his latest releases on Spotify. If this video wasn’t enough and you want to hear the tracks in full you can stream them here.
Hardy Caprio – Daily Duppy
Hardy looks like he’s back as he’s stepped up to deliver a hard-hitting but heartfelt Daily Duppy. Say what you will about Hardy in terms of consistency with drops, but one thing that can never be questioned is the quality and here he just proves that again. Whilst Daily Duppy is the premier place for most artists to showcase wordplay sometimes the art of storytelling is lost in it, Hardy here shows that you can definitely do both. The freestyle is the story of Hardy and it is a harrowing one but also one that brings us closer to the artist in a way that we probably didn’t expect from a Daily Duppy, so make sure you take it in properly.
Gabzy – Party Starter
As soon as he teased “Party Starter” you knew this would be a banger. Whether it was the intro that mimics the refrain from Sean Paul‘s “Give It Up To Me” or just the production, this one was instantly special. Gabzy is just one of those artists who gets it right consistently and “Party Starter” is in actuality just another hit to be added to his already extensive catalogue of music. The track is I guess Alte – it has Afrobeats elements but the larger influences seem to come from R&B and Hip-Hop. This is one of Gabzy’s strengths as he has real variety to his sound but he’s also capable of making that work together as evidenced on his last two EP’s.
Skepta – All In
All In is a nice reminder of what Skepta can do musically as we haven’t had a solo project from him since 2019. This 5 track EP is a nice collection of tracks with some huge features across its short run time. But besides being musically solid what’s going to be interesting abut this project is if its Skepta‘s last we will hear. He has already said he’s retiring from music and we’d only be getting music he’d been sitting on or recorded already and All In is the first release we’ve had from him since that announcement. Only time will tell, but if this is his las project Skepta is leaving on a real high note for sure.
OFB (SJ, Dezzie, Izzpot, Double Lz, Bandokay) – Youngest In Charge (Remix)
It’s nice to see OFB keeping SJ‘s name relevant amidst their continued run of success as he was such a key part of their early success, especially for Bandokay and Double Lz. “Youngest In Charge” was one of the biggest Drill songs out when it was first released and if anything it’s a surprise we didn’t see a remix of it any earlier. For the remix, the all-stars of the younger generation of OFB were called upon and they brought their unique personalities to it with Bando even incorporating a bit of SJ‘s flow into his verse to further pay homage. It’s a track that’s both nostalgic and fresh but one I feel is more for the Drill aficionados.
