Five For Friday ft. [@KING_SALIEU], [@bryn_bp], [@kwengfacepb] + more

Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.

Five For Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. We’ve had another very busy week of great music so to make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.

Kwengface – Tetley

Zone 2 members have really been on form in 2021 and reminding everyone why they hold such an important place in Drill. Kwengface is easily up there with the best in the genre and after having dropped a couple of tracks with fellow Zone 2 members and a Plugged In With Fumez we have his first solo track of the year in ‘Tetley’. The track features all the things people love about Drill – an ominous melody, pronounced 808s, aggressive percussion and the creativity in flows that’s needed to make artists shine against such impactful production. On top of the unique flows and punchlines, ‘Tetley’ is packaged with visuals way better than your standard Drill video courtesy of Toxic. Don’t sleep on this one.

Pa Salieu Ft. slowthai – Glidin’

Pa Salieu doesn’t miss. New track ‘Glidin” showcases even more of his diversity in sound and is a great teaser to what he’s been working on out in the countryside. He enlists fellow out of the box thinker slowthai and the two mesh together surprisingly well. They’re definitely not two artists I’d have expected to come together, but now I’ve heard it once I’m going to need something from this duo again at some point. It’s an early summer banger but one that I hope doesn’t get underappreciated. It’s more of a measured song in comparison to Pa‘s bigger songs like ‘Frontline’ and last years ‘My Family’ that pack immediate impact but ‘Glidin” is a big tune nonetheless.

Bryn – 21 Freestyle

I’d never heard of Bryn before until I saw a clip of this going around on socials and the full thing goes above and beyond what my expectations were. I’m genuinely excited to see what comes next from Bryn. She’s shown she’s got flows, melodies and can put the two together smoothly all whilst delivering content that feels authentic to her. It also helps that her content goes completely against the grain of the Drill beat she picked for this one, and for the most part sounds different to what anyone else is saying. I hope this is just a teaser though, it feels like she has more to give especially on the lyrics front but only time will tell.

Meek Mill – Flamerz Flow

Meek Mill holds the spot he does in Rap because of tracks like ‘Flamerz Flow’. When you think of a Meek track you want that aggressive but slightly high pitched Philly tone talking that get up and grind talk. That is exactly what we get on ‘Flamerz Flow’ over hard hitting production with the level of lyricism we expect from Meek at this point. It isn’t his craziest song, but it’s definitely his best one in a while largely because it sees him tapping into the raw energy that thrust him into the limelight. This is the Meek we want, let’s just hope he continues to deliver on that and keeps out of any trouble.

Lil Baby & Lil Durk – Voice Of The Heroes

Ahead of the release of their joint project The Voice Of The Heroes that dropped today, Lil Baby and Lil Durk dropped the visuals to the project’s titular track. It was the right track to be the leading single as it immediately throws you into the gritty street tales that will permeate throughout the rest of the project. It’s a joint project that makes sense with both being heavyweights with strong fanbases and styles that complement each other naturally whilst covering similar subject matter. They each have enough distinct about them that stops things from getting repetitive and together they only enhance each other’s strengths.
