Five For Friday ft [@berwynberwyn_], [@milanring], [@iamodeal] + more

Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.

Five For Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.

Odeal & Marzi – Na You

Odeal isn’t slowing up at all and for his latest release he’s teamed up with Marzi for ‘Na You’. This one is a record everyone can appreciate as it has elements of so many genres and styles to it. Though it could broadly fall under Alte, the R&B element is extremely strong in the track but it’s that blend of Afro elements that gives it the bounce. You will want to get up and dance but also harmonise with the infectious melodies that you can’t help but sing along to. This best of both worlds is mirrored in Odeal and Marzi‘s different styles that are distinct but complementary of each other on the record. It’s a banger.

Milan Ring Ft. Che Lingo – BS

Sydney based singer, rapper, guitarist, producer, and mix engineer Milan Ring has an abundance of talent and lends her hand to every part of the creative process. For ‘BS’ she enlisted Che Lingo, a talent many should know already, who comes through and provides a typically slick but insightful performance. In her own words, the track is about how “Life keeps throwing us BS” and the way that we respond to it. Rather than being melancholic, the track is upbeat with a Latin spin to the bouncy bass riff that’s complemented by the percussion. This all comes together to make a record that deserves all the shine it can get.

BERWYN – I’d Rather Die Than Be Deported

If there is one rapper people should be excited about coming from the UK at the moment it’s BERWYN. A gifted lyricist who’s also able to carry melodies that are raw and guttural, his music always packs a punch. That’s clear on ‘I’D RATHER DIE THAN BE DEPORTED’, the song name alone will probably jolt some kind of reaction out of you before you’ve even heard a single second of the track. Give it a listen and that impact is doubled as the content is just as serious as the title makes it sound, but delivered in a way that makes it seem deceivingly lighthearted. That is a talent in itself and just one reason to keep watching BERWYN.

Alana Maria Ft. Midas The Jagaban – Chargie

Alana Maria is an extremely exciting talent and has already made some big moves having worked with Rebecca Garton, Ling Hussle, Tia Carys, Kranium and now Midas The Jagaban. The latest collaboration with Midas The Jagaban, ‘Chargie’, gives an opportunity for both to showcase slightly different sides to themselves. It’s the first record where Alana has had the opportunity to show her ability over a more dance fuelled production. For Midas it’s the opposite, instead of being over her usual choice of Afrobeat production we get her on something a lot closer to R&B and it works. Together the two provide great balance to the track and it’s a track you can’t sleep on.

Vague Detail – How Does It Feel

Vague Detail is the artist-producer collaboration between Kaleem Taylor and The Code. Kaleem is a name you probably recognise having broken out onto people’s radars a few years ago but The Code is a producer who wants to let the music speak for itself whilst he remains anonymous. For ‘How Does It Feel’ the duo continue building anticipation for their joint project releasing later this year with an intimate R&B record and the visuals to match. It takes elements of classic R&B both musically and visually but brings them into the contemporary context with subtle variations that make it feel familiar but fresh at the same time.
