Five For Friday ft [@jevon_official], [@miss_lafamilia], [@iamluckydaye], + more

Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.

Five for Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.

Digga D x AJ Tracey – Bringing It Back

Since coming out of jail Digga D has not missed at all and ‘Bringing It Back’ is no exception to that. This time linking up with fellow West London superstar AJ Tracey the two artists tap into some of their earlier sounds and double down on it by recreating some of their most iconic earlier visuals. The nostalgia does well for their existing fan bases and both artists delivered more than just what was expected of them. The dynamic created by the back to back added an element that kept things continuously entertaining with flows constantly being switched up. It’s a great link up and a sign of the quality to come in 2021 from both artists.

Miss LaFamilia ft, Abra Cadabra – Dumb Flex

Miss LaFamilia makes her 2021 entrance enlisting the Drill powerhouse that is Abra Cadabra for ‘Dumb Flex’. We kind of know what to expect with Abz at this point and he delivers as expected leaving a memorable impact with his verse. Miss LaFamilia is a little harder to pin down in terms of expectations and I think she likes it that way. We are just as likely to hear LaFamilia dropping melodies as we are to hear her attacking beats with the presence and confidence she has in abundance. On ‘Dumb Flex’ we get both from her and it provides a nice switch up on what would have otherwise been the standard Drill tracks structure.

Jevon – Fell In Love In Brasil

There’s only so much I can say in a paragraph and a lone paragraph can never do a project like Fell In Love In Brasil justice. Saying that what I can absolutely confirm is that Jevon has one of the best bodies of work to come out of the UK in some time. Tapping into his Brazillian roots after receiving his grandfather’s record collection this album was worked on over three years. That time pays off as there is a cohesiveness present without ever feeling like the project is only hitting one note. It is a breath of fresh air and one that deserves its flowers from the jump.

PRICIE – Too Dang Good

PRICIE is the Nigerian born talent carving a space for herself in Australia. The triple threat singer, rapper, songwriter shows she has all the potential on debut record ‘Too Dang Good’. It is an uptempo Pop-Rap number with an almost R&B like hook that taps into a sound that I think it’d be hard not to like. There are elements to PRICIE on display here that are reminiscent of what made Lizzo take the world stage by storm – an unashamed confidence in their own talent paired with a sound that marks you out from the crowd without alienating audiences. It is a great debut record.

Lucky Daye, Tiana Major9 – On Read

Lucky Daye enlisted one of East London’s most exciting vocalists Tiana Major9 for the soulful and emotionally open ‘On Read’. The track has the two stars each offering their perspectives on having an unreplied message and the responses it induces in the two of them. It is a fitting narrative of the digital age which is obsessed with finding the deep meaning of things that don’t always have that deep of a meaning. Yet it also shows the anxiety that being vulnerable with a partner can cause on occasion. It seems pretty timely with Valentine’s Day approaching so I’m sure more than a few people are going to relate to the sentiments expressed on this one.
