Five For Friday: Léonie Barbot, Clavish, [@RasharnPowell], [@LcLevi] & more

The tide of new music never seems to stop coming in and Friday being one of the most intense days for new music we can understand if it all feels a little overwhelming. That’s why we’ve delved into the deepest and darkest corners of the musical ocean to bring you Five For Friday: our weekly round-up of the crème de la crème in new music.

Léonie Barbot – “Summer”

French artist Léonie Barbot shares her latest independently released single ‘Summer’. Following on from her debut EP COMMUNICATION, produced by the revered Darius and Jay Prince, “Summer” takes Léonie’s wispy vocals to blustering new heights. “Summer tells the story of a romance that’s slowly fading with the changing seasons, winter brings cold feelings and longing for the warmth of love and Summer again.”  Alongside an acoustic riff and her own violin arrangements, the track is a symphony leading listeners into a reverie (pleasantly lost in one’s thought). Barbot first learnt to pick up the violin. With the producer AgaJon and cello player Malik Johnson putting their own twist on things the track immediately becomes this wonderful calibration of sounds.

Clavish – “Sold Out Dates”

North London’s Clavish is spitting with candour on his latest, “Sold Out Dates”. There’s this element in the rapper’s flow that feels meticulously fine-tuned. In true Clavish fashion, the visuals accompanying the track see the young rapper in London’s diamond district, Hatton Garden, brandishing his own diamond-encrusted timepiece as he flexes with his boys surrounded by a fleet of foreign cars, and dripping in designer wear as he raps: “next time that I run off on a plug, putting half away and I’m going-a Jewellers”.

Ojerime, Rasharn Powell – “Play II”

It’s one of those collaborations your soul needed. Two vocalists, Rasharn Powell and Ojerime have combined their immensely tantalizing tones for this futuristic R&B track. Produced by Niels & Sam Taieb, the song was created in the very first session the artists had together; a magical and long overdue collaboration indeed. “This song speaks for itself in regards to the feeling it brings. It rumbles through your body and it’s a side I haven’t shown. I’m excited about this side. To be accompanied by Ojerime, who I’ve always had a crazy amount of love for, is even better. ”

Kelvin Krash, Jeshi –  “Electric”. 

Jeshi and Kelvin Krash have shared “Electric”, the Top Boy synced single released on the back of Jeshi’s vanquishing debut album Universal Credit. Directed by Krash himself, the visuals show off the area the pair once meandered around from young tots to wily teens. Created by just the two of them, it’s a personal piece of work that captures the sense of collaboration that this track embodies. The cinematic view of the classic city landscape demonstrates the pair’s deep bond with their hometown.

Lc Levi – “Dog Treats”

The trap snare is blunt but without a doubt present, providing a welcomed hazy atmosphere– the ideal backing for the Snow Mountain, GA artist’s raspy bars. Lc Levi has been keeping his catalogue consistent, releasing project after project like any true-blue Atlanta rapper and his latest single “Dog Treats” is no disappointment. Like Pavlov’s famous experiment on salivating dogs, “Dog Treats” leaves you wanting more.
