Five For Friday Ft. [@TommySaint_], [@lashanalatrice], [@KojeyRadica] + more
Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.
Five For Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. With it being another very busy week of great music to make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.
La Shana Latrice – Let It Flow
Birmingham’s La Shana Latrice is kicking off 2022 in impressive fashion with new single “Let It Show”. Although you may not be familiar with La Shana, she’s been sporadically releasing tracks since 2019 but this latest drop feels like a real statement of intent for this next year. “Let It Show” sees her sultry but sweet vocals paired with a dreamy but bouncy production, courtesy of the US based producer Reginald ‘Regg’ Smith. The talent is undeniable from the very first note La Shana sings on the R&B bop. She also pairs the release with exquisite visuals which only add to the feeling of her being the polished article and I can’t wait to see what she has coming over the course of the year.
Kojey Radical Ft. Knucks – Payback
Kojey is firmly in album mode and follows up the stellar “Gangsta” with “Payback” which sees him collaborating with South Kilburn’s Knucks. The track is in part an ode to James Brown‘s “Payback” and that Funk sound but given a contemporary spin. More than that it is a track about confidence and reclaimation with Kojey saying “When you’ve been taught to be the victim for so long, it feels great to stand up and say, ‘No one can bully me’,”. With a catchy hook and production alongside slick verses and an outstanding guest verse from Knucks, this is one record you cannot sleep on.
Tommy Saint – Never
Tommy Saint bursts into 2022 with the bouncy “Never”. This one is crazy. Every aspect of this release is executed exquisitely. Verses, hook, production, visuals – not one of them lacks. This is a release that should honestly excite anyone that’s a fan of Rap. With it often being said that there’s a lot of the same thing always coming out Tommy shows you here on “Never” that there are gems if you just take a look outside of the more mainstream lens. What’s even more exciting is that this is the follow up to his debut single and is showing no signs of slowing down. Remember the name Tommy Saint.
Scuti – Eating
“Eating” is a record that I’ve personally been waiting for a while having had Scuti perform it live on our lveMUSIC. series all the way back in 2020. It is a smooth, laid back track with extremely stripped back production for a Rap record but it works extremely well for Scuti. She weaves across the production seamlessly switching from being commanding and lyrical to more melodic and then back without missing a step. On the record she discusses the importance of checking in on people and sometimes it being as simple as asking the question “have you eaten?”. Scuti is again showing why she is a talent that has been garnering attention for years whilst working the underground circuit.
BenjiFlow – Ready
BenjiFlow and Juls on a track was never going to be anything less than a vibe. This is the latest track to be released from his upcoming project The Thrill which also features the excellent “My Bella” which released towards the end of last year. “Ready” sees Benji glide across the live instrumental filled tapestry weaved by Juls. It is the perfect match with Benji‘s silky vocals being complimented by the production and occasionally using pauses to allow the production to take centre stage at moments. With this looking to be the last teaser ahead of his project’s release, Benji definitely leaves us wanting to hear what else he has in store after this superb offering.
