Five For Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. With it being another very busy week of great music to make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening. 

Fave – Riddim 5

Nigeria just continues to be a hub of hidden gems and Fave is just the latest in a long line to have been discovered. Having had her real breakout moment with her indisputable hit “Baby Riddim” she has followed it up with the Riddim 5 project. It includes the aforementioned “Baby Riddim” alongside four new cuts and none of them disappoint. It is a mellow affair that blurs genre lines with elements of Afropop, Dancehall, R&B and more all scattered throughout but coming together harmoniously throughout. Speaking on the record Fave said, “The sounds in my head that want to come out are finally getting the chance.“. Fave looks to be a really special talent and Riddim 5 is the perfect introduction to why she’s already been co-signed by the likes of Mr Eazi and Olamide amongst others.

Piper-Grace – Caught Up

Piper-Grace is a star in the making and is very quickly building up a reputation for herself with her incredible vocals. “Caught Up” is only her second release but listening to the record you’d never know that. Her sultry R&B vocals melt in and out of the production that perfectly compliments her powerful but sweet style. Her writing style is introspective and insightful and her exploration of love leaves room for her vulnerability only making records and her performances feel even more endearing. I hope to see Piper-Grace keep up this momentum whilst maintaining this outstanding quality she’s displayed across her first two tracks.

Nemahsis – dollar signs

Toronto’s Nehmasis bares all on her latest single “dollar signs” which is only her third release. The record is self-reflection at its best – honest, frank, and extremely self-aware. This delivered with a voice that you can’t help but be enamoured with and it’s no surprise why she’s already garnered a significant following, especially on TikTok where she’s showcased her experimenting with fashion alongside her music. She is all about representing your true self and embodies that sentiment in her records by not shying away from the vulnerabilities as is on show so clearly on “dollar signs”. Also, the visuals are incredible for this release. The one-take video directed by Crowns & Owls explores the complex duality of Nemah’s world and pairs perfectly with the record in enhancing the overall experience of it.

Adekunle Gold – Mercy

Adekunle Gold needs no introduction and on his latest single “Mercy” he delivers the quality we’ve come to expect of him. “Mercy” is the latest single taken from his upcoming album Catch Me If You Can which releases on February 4th. “Mercy” gives us a low-key bop and will scratch the itch of any Afrobeats fan needing that something new. This one won’t shut down an event, but it’s one that will definitely get people up on their feet to vibe to. It is a strong teaser for the album and sets a strong tone for the quality we can expect.

Ellie Parris – Out of Sight

Newcomer Ellie Parris follows up her 2021 run of singles with her five track EP Out of Sight which was executively produced by Jords. It features the previously released “Seasons” and “Always” as well as new cuts that show Ellie has a lot more to show us. “Time” is the early standout record to me, it feels like such a change of pace on the project and stylistically showcases Ellie‘s most experimental record to date. The project has range and variety whilst maintaining its cohesiveness and feeling like a complete body of work even though the project comes in at just under fifteen minutes. It’s a strong start to the new year from the Cardiff born talent and it will be interesting to see what the rest of the year has in store for her.
