Is Alia Fresco’s [@aliafresco] Autonomic Pop: The New Sound?
Merging Alternative Electronic vibes with sultry R&B vocals akin to artists like Banks and FKA Twigs, Danish singer Alia Fresco is set to release her self-titled EP on February 17th with CNVX. Having worked closely with London based Dance/Electronic producer Damon Kirkham, together they may have created something very unique that gives an interesting take on experimental UK Bass that is paving the way for a new sound coined ‘Autonomic Pop’.
Coming in at 4 tracks long, this project is a very interesting listen to say the least, with what I feel has taken inspiration from producers such as Arcca and lil Silva. You can hear this especially on tracks like ‘Break Me Out’ and ‘Let You Go’. First time round, I would have never have guessed that these tracks are so fast, with every track clocking in at 170 bpm or more across the whole project. However, with that being said, this is where the mastery of Kid Drama’s production skills comes into play. Being able to seamlessly blend Fresco’s silky vocals over what is essentially a Bassline or Drum and Bass instrumental is a testament not only to the producer but Fresco’s vocal performance on this project as well. You would have never thought that a Drum and Bass tempos could be turned into experimental R&B jams.
So, if you’re looking for something a little bit different to soundtrack the inevitable Sunday house cleaning session, this project is definitely something I would recommend. Filled with great genre pushing instrumentation and a great vocal performance from Alia Fresco, telling stories of love and love lost; as I said above I would not give this one a miss.
