Afro Nation Festival [@afronationfest] Announces Ghana Instalment
Afro Nation Festival, set to run between 1 and 4 August 2019 at Portimao in the Algarve region of Portugal, is shaped up to be the biggest celebration of ‘urban’ music in Europe this year. With tickets selling out in mere hours for both phases of the lineup release, the Portugal instalment will celebrate all things Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae and Dancehall and will see thousands of people from around the world gather on one of Europe’s most beautiful beaches.
The line-up is headlined by the ‘Big Three’ of Nigerian Afro-Fusion and Afrobeats artists – Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy and features other heavy hitters such as Afro B, Teni the Entertainer and Octavian Essie; even drawing the legendary Femi Kuti.
This week, Afro Nation finally announced their highly rumoured second festival, which is set to see the brand return to the motherland during a particularly busy period for tourism on the continent. Taking place between 27 and 30 December 2019, Afro Nation ‘2.0’ will be held in Accra, Ghana. Ghana’s stunning coastline stretches 560km, with white sandy beaches that hug the Atlantic Ocean and average daily temperatures of 30°C. To echo the words of the organisers themselves, “it’s no surprise that [they’ve] chosen this incredible location as our next festival destination.”
The focus on promoting these high profile artists is important, and the creation of a festival brand that presents us with an opportunity to see them both in Europe and in Africa is welcomed and is in some way representative of our own blended identities as members of the diaspora.
We, at Guap, are certainly very excited for everything that Afro Nation has in store.
