PREMIERE: Caitlyn Scarlett & Raf Riley – No Gentlemen [@CaitlynSMusic]
Indie starlet Caitlyn Scarlett joins forces with veteran producer Raf Riley ‘No Gentlemen’.
‘No Gentlemen’ pulls together two talents at very different stages in their career but who managed to create something outstanding. Caitlyn Scarlett has been noted to have been “winning fans with her unapologetic brand of indie-pop since she was a 16-year-old.” all whilst being independent and securing opportunity after opportunity. This has allowed her to end up on Roc Nation’s writing camp, over 50 million streams on Spotify, a deal with BMG, and even a sync on Love Island. Raf Riley equally has a whole host of accolades as alongside him having produced for Etta Bond, Avelino, Diplo and more he is also a label owner.
On ‘No Gentlemen’ Riley creates a cinematic feeling Western-themed production with a twist. That twist is in the use of percussion which feels more at home in Hip-Hop which contrasts the melody provided largely by the strings. In turn, what ties it all together in a way that makes sense is Caitlyn. Her alternative-indie sonic creates a harmony between the various influences on the track. More importantly, her bold vocal performance isn’t drowned or overshadowed by the imposing production. Instead, she takes centre stage with an impassioned and unfaltering vocal deliverance, which explores themes of heartbreak and mistreatment in romance.
