1. Banditsu – Katana

London based rapper Banditsu teams up with Toronto producer Ekho for an explosive collaboration about his love of the Japanese sword. Over the edgy soundscape, Banditsu channels his inner Samurai. Fusing the British grime with new age punk rap this track taps into a real creative spike and once initiated Banditsu can’t be stopped as this one is a real winner. Speaking of being a true renegade in the industry, he definitely proves early on into 2016 that the time of New-wave rap is here and it’s not letting up anytime soon! 2. Benj – Nigga Like Me

NYC soul singer Benj premieres his first installment of 2016 with “Nigga Like Me”. The slow paced track allows his voice to shine as he tells his lover all that he can provide. The track isn’t too full on like most R&B numbers the arrangement is mellow enough to vibe too, everything is in sync; the production, the vocals, nothing feels forced or out of place, great track! 3. FJAY – Dead or Alive

On the back of his album ‘91’ last year, London rapper F-Jay returns with Dead or Alive. The track is reminiscent in production to late 90’s – early 00’s Jay-Z records F-Jay gets serious with the message he delivers. Topical focus includes daily dilemma’s and questioning his own existence. His flow is brilliant and as the song develops he proves that he really is an underdog in UK rap. 4. Jazz Cartier – Opera

Canada is having a real moment in Hip-hop and Jazz Cartier is one of the reasons why! Hailing from Toronto, the lyricist is gearing up for his second album and the first single off of it brings trap to the ‘Opera’. Jazz’s confidence is channeled here as he talks about all the obstacles he’s been through and lets us know that he’s here to stay. The track, although dabbling in trap still maintains coherence and over the production Jazz raps clearly and solidly! Definitely one to watch over the course of the year. 5. Lancey Foux – Grow Up

– Lancey Foux is definitely treating his fans! After several releases recently Lancey is not letting up as gives us some more with ‘Grow Up’. The track shows real promise as he fuses the UK grit with US Trap/Hip hop in the production. His care-free nature mixed with his quickly infectious flow, is the perfect match for being an artist truly about to blow. ‘Grow Up’ has another winning blueprint for Lancey, with continued releases such as this 2016 might just be the year of his breakthrough.
