Talawa’s upcoming festival is the black artists’ haven [@TalawaTheatreCo]

Talawa Firsts is back with its two-week theatre festival showcasing poetry, live music, cabaret, workshops, and much more. In its 11th year, Talawa Firsts is bringing innovative events to the forefront of its programme.

Talawa is a Black UK theatre company that has thrived for the past 37 years hosting various productions online and offline. The festival organises each day into different themes and events across two weeks.

Mondays will be dedicated to The Scratches – on this night, excerpts of plays developed by the 2023 writers will be showcased. Tuesdays will be filled with networking events such as the Black Dramaturgs Link-up on the 4th of July and the Black Theatre-makers Link-up on the 11th of July. Wednesdays are for immersive events such as cabaret and Thursdays for ‘The Double-Bills’ – where new writers have a chance to showcase their work collectively. The first Double-Bill on the 6th of July will feature artists like Malika Booker writing on the AIDS epidemic. Lastly, Fridays will end the week right with a rooftop club night.

Tickets range from free/pay what you can’ to a maximum of £15. The festival ends this week on 14th July. Tickets are available here.
