WHAT WENT DOWN @ THE LIVE SUPPLY ANNIVERSARY FEATURING [@SAIMINGMUSIC] [@KD_JINCHURIKI] [@PRISCILLIASPLACE] [@ZUKOROSEMEID] [D0.VINCHI]

The Live Supply is a live showcase-style event run by artist Saiming, hosted by his good friend Oria. The first event took place a year ago, to celebrate the anniversary they assembled the original lineup. Taking place in Boxpark Croydon, it was a family affair that was a night to remember.

Kicking things off, rapper KD began to spit bars over piano keys elevated by hip hop drum loops. His chill rap warmed up the crowd. His next track had some more romantic lyrics, dedicated to his girl – who sadly couldn’t be there but was there in spirit. Following on, his next track was wheeled up by DJXHNWAV, the selector for the night. His clever opening line – “If I lift this pen – nah stop that / that’s an SM bar, can’t drop that” – references Saiming’s ‘WOOF MEOW’ (If I lift this pen stop drop and roll, flows might scorch up ya dome). He then proceeds to spray his own wicked bars as the drill laced kick drums flow through the venue. Saiming starts to adlib from the side of the stage before jumping on for their collab, ‘2020’ – the chemistry they’ve got on stage is that of a brotherly love as they bounce off of each other. Saiming’s bars excel – he even reference The Live Supply in his lyricism.

Priscillia emerges for a slight change of pace as we go from chill rap to some mellow R&B. Her smooth, dulcet tones full of depth caress the ears of the audience in her opening track. She encourages crowd participation on the next one, getting them to repeat her lyrics back to her. ‘Rolling, rolling, rolling’, ‘Tryna’ control them’ before the beat bounces through the venue. She was in her element, vibing with the crowd and the music. The next track she plays is named after a bus route she’d take to her job, ‘139’. She dedicates the song to creatives working 9-5s to make money to support their craft and even shouts out the bar staff. For her next song ‘Tangerine’ – matching her orange two piece – she wants to start a mosh pit as the song is more of a party vibe. She hops into the audience and dances with the audience, she’s rapping this time – we love a woman who can do both! Her last song rides off of that party vibe, she’s returned to singing and keeps the mood lively.

After this, a cypher ensued. Friends of Saiming like rappers J2 and D Wills jumped on stage and freestyled over energetic instrumentals. A highlight was D Wills and Dochi empty the clip over Wiley’s ‘Igloo’ instrumental – the crowd went nuts. The track got reloaded and D Wills started referencing the intro to Wiley’s ‘Wot Do You Call It?’ – which samples ‘Igloo’ – ‘What they call this? Live Supply!” The whole ting went off.

Dochi took the stage next. He wholesomely dedicates the first song, ‘Soul SisTa’ to his sister. He dips between passionately rapping to smooth singing. The next song picks up the pace a little,  the production innovative and the bars amorous. The next track, a remix of his most popular tune ‘Fix Up’, was personally reloaded by D Wills, he walked on to the stage and reached over the decks to do so. He’s even offing his jacket and dashing it behind the decks during the set, the energy in the room rising higher and higher. He finishes with a song he said he wrote in 2019 – when he “was a baby” – and even though that would’ve been four years ago, the song is still getting crowds pumped in 2023.

Chants of ‘ZUUUUKOOOO’ welcomed Zuko Rosemeid onto the stage. He begins his performance with ‘Dreaming Of You’ from his latest EP, Light Blue. He performed with dynamic tenacity and had the crowd buzzing. He shouts out his producer and then invites NEVRRATED – the collective he’s a part of – on stage. Omar+, Nori and Anuk joined Zuko, each member bringing their own flair to the stage. ‘The Team’ is a rap song full of cleverly crafted bars by Anuk. Omar+, Nori and Zuko perform their collaboration titled ‘Need This’, Omar+’s vocals on the chrous give it an innovative break between the eloquent rap verses from Nori and Zuko. It’s Nori’s turn to shine solo as he spits his song ‘Mario Kart’. Jersey club infiltrates the space as Zuko and Nori get the crowd jumping with their song ‘Keep On Pushing’. Omar+ switches things up with his dance R&B hybrid jam called ‘Let It Ride.’ Zuko then invited Saiming on stage to perform with him, and they performed two different freestyles before finishing with their hit ‘Night Tube’.

Event organiser and rapper Saiming takes the stage for the headline slot. ‘Saiming Says’ proved to be one of the crowd favourites as his cadence weaved through the drums on the track. Nori hopped back on stage for their song ‘Tetris’, they had wicked chemistry – often adlib-ing eachother. He performed ‘Set Pace’ featuring J2, another favourite – a truly masterful collaboration in the name of chill rap. D Wills hit the stage for their unreleased tune ‘FUCKA’, testing it out with the audience. Anyone who’s ever seen ‘WOOF MEOW’ performed live will know the ritual that comes before it, you’ve gotta “get low, get low, get low” while Lil Jon’s ‘Get Low’ plays in the background. Not gonna lie, my knees couldn’t hack it. But none the less, the energy was at an all time high once he started spitting. Pisces Bby joined him on stage for his final song, which was a little Amapiano tune.

Overall, The Live Supply is a great way to spend a night out if you’re looking to discover new artists and catch a vibe.
