It’s Reboot Season!

It’s Reboot Season!

Why do our favourite shows keep on being rebooted? Are we in a drought of creativity? It seems as if every other week there is a new reboot airing on our television screens. Recently, we’ve seen the TV premieres of the Proud family “Louder and Prouder” and “Bel-Air”, a modern take on the cult classic, “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.

Nostalgia seems to be the word of the year. It’s being used to describe trends in culture, music, fashion, and in this case TV and film. We know that there is a trend cycle – where we see the same influences and ideas being reused and recycled in new ways every 20 years or so. But there has been a major resurgence of this more than ever in the past year. Production companies are jumping at the opportunity to reboot some of our childhood and youth classics.

The ability to stream means we have more choice, variety, and the freedom to watch however many shows, across multiple viewing platforms. Screenwriters and producers know just how much comfort we get from watching old classics, and with this huge reboot boom, they are taking this to the next level.

In this list, we share a mix of new and critically acclaimed reboots you should add to your watch list!
