GUAP Mix 009: [@fauzimoto] Brings High-Energy With Footwork Mix

Happy new year.

2018 has officially arrived and the GUAP DJ series is back, so what other way to kick start the new month of mixes with none other than a footwork mix by DJ Fauzia.

Fauzia is a 21 year old Producer & DJ from London who is also a resident DJ for Gal- dem magazine and presents a monthly slot on NTS radio. When she’s not at a club night shutting it down she is at University studying music production with an exciting EP on the way.

We can’t wait to hear what’s in store for Fauzia in 2018.

Interview

Explain your journey into DJ’ing?

I started DJ’ing almost a year ago; I wanted to learn for years but never had the means. I bought my first controller in January 2017 but I only started practicing consistently from April. I’ve always been into finding new genres of music so it was only a matter of time before I started DJ’ing.

What’s the best thing about your job ?

I think it’s watching people enjoy the music I play; I’m always quite skeptical before I play a set so it’s rewarding to see people have fun.

If you could DJ for any artist who would it be?

I don’t have a specific artist I’d like to DJ for but I would love to DJ alongside Teklife.

What is Footwork and where can you see it going in 2018?

Footwork is a high-energy genre which started in Chicago and it has influences of ghetto house, hip-hop and juke. There are so many collectives around the world producing their own take on footwork like Polish Juke, Sequel One, Jukebouncewerk and Iberian Juke. Collective’s like these are the reason footwork is going to gain more recognition on a global scale in the future.

Name someone who has influenced you to be who you are today?

I want to say DJ Rashad, he was the reason I started listening to Footwork and the reason I started DJ’ing. He is a pioneer when it comes to Footwork and his legacy has touched so many people including myself.

New years resolution?

I want to release my debut EP, it’d be fun to play music that I’ve made myself and hear it on the dancefloor. I’m also hoping to play at least one festival, so promoters get at me.

What are your highlights of 2017?

Getting a monthly slot on NTS radio, it’s always been a dream of mine to have a show there. I also joined the gal-dem team of DJ’s, if it wasn’t for that opportunity I wouldn’t have played my first event. I’ve also been getting booked for a lot of events which has been fun. I started my own club night in Brighton called SHOOK and i’m hoping to take it to London after I graduate.

What can people expect from your mix?

My mix has footwork classics as well as music from upcoming producers; you definitely can’t sit still for this one.

Any tips for budding DJ’s?

It’s important you play what you like, there may be people who aren’t into the music you play but there will always be others who’ll enjoy it. And practice as much as you possibly can.

Where can people find you online?
