Five For Friday ft. [@blanc0b0urne], [@shaybomusic], [@JulsOnIt] + more

Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.

Five For Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is the day that the official charts are announced, which lets us know who holds the coveted number one position. We’ve had another very busy week of great music so to make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.

Blanco – City of God

Blanco has finally dropped his City of God project and it delivers in hitting all the right notes. The 14 track project takes us on an interesting journey both content wise and sonically. I think we get the most reflective and open Blanco we’ve seen to date especially on closing track “Safe Space”. But this doesn’t mean Blanco has sacrificed vibes to deliver this deeper side to him. If you like that Baille Funk infused Drill sound you’ve got “Asura & Indra”, “Time Out”, “Fala”, “TSG” and “Shippudden” to take in and I promise none of them disappoint. This is without even mentioning the features or anime references/samples, this project is serious make sure you take it in.

Juls Ft. Niniola – Love Me

Juls has been on a real run of recent and his latest offering with Niniola is no exception to that. He is cementing himself as one of the kings of bringing the vibes and Niniola went above and beyond on “Love Me” to help cement that. She more than just complimented the production, instead her performance does the difficult job of enhancing something that was already great. We’re outside again (in the UK at least), the weekend is here, don’t play yourself – add this one to your playlists for anywhere you want enjoyment.

Mannywellz x Tems – Peace

Mannywellz might not be a name you’re that familiar with but his latest collaboration with Tems on “Peace” should be a reminder to give everyone their fair chance. At this point there’s no real need to discuss Tems, we know she delivers at the highest level anytime she’s called upon in that signature tone that’s instantly recognisable. Mannywellz is equally distinct in his sound, his vocals feel Frank Ocean-esque but with his individual flair on top. This is a mellow one for a more laid back vibe than some of the other offerings on today’s list but equally, one that should be getting its fair share of shine.

Aaliyah – One In A Million

This isn’t a new release but it’s an important development so deserves its coverage regardless, Aaliyah‘s 1996 album One In A Million is finally available on Spotify. If you don’t know who Aaliyah is or why she was so loved and continues to be championed 20 years after she passed away this is the time to get educated. Despite passing at only 22 Aaliyah released 3 studio albums each of which sold more than 6 million copies worldwide – that’s physical sales too. One In A Million being made available gives long term fans something they’ve wanted for years and the chance for a new audience to appreciate Aaliyah with fresh ears. This project is called a classic for good reason.

Shaybo – Queen Of The South

Shaybo aka the Queen of the South has today dropped her long awaited Queen of the South project and it was worth the wait. Shaybo might have had her big break on people’s radar doing Drill with tracks like “Anger” and “Bonjour Cava” but since that initial run, she’s shown real diversity in sound. That development of sound can be felt across Queen of the South with elements of Afrobeats, Dancehall, R&B and of course Rap across the just over 30 minute run time. You can expect ruthless storytelling, direct and on-point bars mixed with melodious tracks which all contribute to making it a debut project to remember.
