Five For Friday ft [@TE_dness], [@ennyintegrity], [@KeeyaKeys] + more

Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.

Five for Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.

Enny – Same Old

What is there really to say about Enny that hasn’t already been said at this point? She is just a real breath of fresh air amongst a musical landscape that often looks very repetitive, which is ironic considering the title of her new release. ‘Same Old’ has the South London lyricist gliding effortlessly over a mellow but infectious beat whilst she blends her smooth wordplay and flows with her flair for holding melodies. The track continues building Enny‘s brand of Rap – Rap with substance and a message without it feeling preachy. This time the message at the heart of it is frustration ranging from day to day life through to gentrification. It’s a well thought out easily relatable record.

TE dness – Essentials (freestyle)

TE dness has been on a real run since releasing April Showers 3 last year dropping single after single through to 2021. His latest drop, ‘Essentials (freestyle)’, is 2 and a half minutes of honest reflecting mixed with appreciation for the positive changes in his life. It gets its name from the line “the fear of God was essential, I ain’t scared of the priest” a nod to the popular Fear of God‘s Essentials line of tracksuits. The track itself goes against the trend of the moment and does away with catchy hooks or menacing Drill beats in favour of leaving the lyrics to make an impact. This one is that motivation music for everyone that’s working their own hustles.

Ling Hussle – Stars In The Roof

Ling Hussle is back with another banger in ‘Stars In The Roof’. It’s her first solo release since releasing ‘That Side’ and although sonically they are completely different, they share a lot of themes. At the core of both songs is a message of the importance of loyalty to Ling alongside affirmations of success that has or is about to come. Where ‘That Side’ was a lot more uptempo the slower pace on ‘Stars In The Roof’ gives it a stronger feeling of reflection and keeps the messaging front and centre. It’s a promising first offering of the year for Ling and hopefully the start of a string of releases or of a project campaign.

Keeya Keys ft. A-MVN – Ding Ding

Finally, we get a track from Keeya Keys and A-MVN after the pair have featured across a few of each other’s videos. ‘Ding Ding’ has the duo trade verses over a Drill beat which is a departure from both of their typical production choices but provides an interesting backdrop for each of them. Despite the menacing Drill production, the vast majority of the song sees both artists reeling off cheeky lyrics about women which conceptually sounds like it shouldn’t work but they prove that it does. In that sense, it almost feels like a spiritual successor to Russ‘s ‘Keisha & Becky’ but with the lyrical ability turned all the way up.

MNELIA – Senseless

Just over a year ago MNELIA burst onto everyone’s radars with ‘Say Yeah’ and in that year since so much has changed. She has well over 5 million streams on ‘Say Yeah’ alone, and just on Spotify, she has had her first child and released the well received After 6 EP. Back now with her first release of 2021, ‘Senseless’, which sees her back with the Timbaland to her Aaliyah, StevieBBeatz. Together the duo just seem to not be able to put a foot wrong as once again they deliver a fresh take on the familiar and make it feel natural. It’s still early doors for 2021 but ‘Senseless’ shows great signs of what’s to come from MNELIA.
